What is it with the one at St Erth (if she still does it)

at St Erth station she will say

'Platform 1 for the xx:xx First Great Western service to St Erth...Calling at Lenant Saltings, Lenant, Carbis Bay, St Ives and St Erth...'

Why announce a train to a destination you are already at!

I hate the way the one at sheffield pronounces 'Hatersage' as "hathersayge' should be pronounced as 'hathersidge'

Is she the one who does the "Smorrking is not permitted in any part of the train"?

I think she's used on North and South services. I've only heard the main announcer on Barrow/Blackpool 185's. (she's the one I was asking about - "This train is for xxxxx, the next stop will be etc...")

Anyone seen the 175 internal info displays recently? They really are messed up - give the wrong stopping patterns on Manchester to Carmarthen and Milford Haven services, words cut off half way through (ie. 'your attenti') and the announcements don't make much sense, e.g:

"We have just arrived at Helsby, Helsby is the next stop. Thank you."

"We will be calling at the following principal stations: Helsby, Frodsham, Runcorn East, Warrington Bank Quay, Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows, Manceinion/Manchester Oxford Road and Manceinion/Manchester Piccadilly."

She is used on all services - you might not be catching them. She was heard in Scotland when I went on Glasgow - Manchester in December!

On the 175s, don't they use two voices?

"This train is for" in the original Alstom voice who I have named 'Nora', and then "HOLLYHEDD!!" in the Wessex Trains 'Ruth' voice. Sounds quite funny, especially when you get:

N: "Thank you for travelling with" R: "ARRIVA TRAINS WAYULS" N: "todaayyy".

Do you mean Nora as in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u5QEAHgMrg

They did a software update a few weeks back, I think they mainly use Ruth as the announcer now.

When they were used by ATW and TPE, the announcer just said "We welcome passengers" so you didn't have 'ATW welcomes passengers' on a TPE service, or vice versa.

That's the setup I was talking about... N:"This train is for" R:"LLANDIDNOOOO" N:"We will be calling at" R:"Prestatyn, Rhyl" etc.

Why can she say Llandudno Junction but not Llandudno I don't know!

Anyway, no worse than Celia, who I have now started a campaign to oust and get someone better, either Phil (Sayer) or myself in instead.

Was at Ipswich the other day and apparently a 'First North Western' service was bound for Liverpool Street!

Standing on a platform an announcement was given "Please stand clear of the platform edge FAST TRAIN APPROACHING" about 10 minutes later an 08 trundled through at 15mph, strange

156401, it's the other way around. The "this train terminates at..." announcement is the older one.

The original announcements also didn't bother with the "this station is" part, from what I remember it was simply. "WESTMINSTER. Change for District and Circle Lines. This train terminates at Stanmore."

the LED screens at Grantham are sometimes useless for tours. Recently one at P4 said:

1132 CHARTER SERVICE
Calling at: CHARTER SERVICE ONLY
Service Operator: CHARTER SERVICE

and sometimes the Birmingham NS ones can still play up:

"Platform 10A for the 12:13 Cross-Country serve-service to Nottinghumm. Calling at Worrter Orrrton, Tamwuff, Burton-on-trent, Darbeeeeeeeeee, Spondun, Long eetunn, Attenburuh, Beeston and Nottinghumm. A troll-trolley serving light refreshmunts is available onthetrain. Thistraindoesnotconveyanysmoking accommudatyon.

Furthermore! Muffly Marge at Sheffield sounded like she had a cold one day:
jue to tudaze wet wevva, plese be careful, as sufaces may be slippawee. Platform 5 for the 1500 Eeest midlunds trayns servisetooo Lundn St Pancrisp, calling at........... Darbee, Long eetunn, Luffbruhh, Lestar, Market Har-bura, Ketterin, wellyburuh, bedfudd, lootun ayyrpott packway, and Lundn St Pancrisp. Fast clas acomudaton, is towards the reyerr of the trayn.
