I'm looking to book 3 adult sgl tickets, Canberra to Sydney for late Feb15.

1. Are there any seating plans for NSW Trains ?
2. Are seats reserved/assigned ?

Looking to book 1st class, the only difference I can see is more leg room are there any complementaries?

When I did Sydney - Canberra & return in 2005 it was a 2 car DMU. The seats were reversable so that all faced the direction of travel.

I travelled 1st class and yes there was possibly extra leg room.

The key thing I remember was that 1st class passengers had 'first pick' from the dinner menu card.

My seat was reserved at Sydney Central and the train crew greeted me on board by name . .. .but they also knew I was travelling with a "letter of introduction" . . . . . .. which might have made a difference!

The seats can still be rotated, this has been standard for long-distance trains here for many decades.

Wasn't like that a couple of years ago when I last used what was called CountryLink at the time, Economy passengers could come through to the on-board café as soon as it opened.

When i booked all my many tickets between Sydney and Melbourne and Brisbane i always got to pick my seats i dont think its any different to the dmus?

The Canberra - Sydney service is operated by 3car DMU's. The 1st class car is car A and contains the Buffet. There is supposed to be more passenger space in 1st but this might be debatable. The bigger benefit is that you escape the backpackers and most of the pensioners on discounted fares.

The seats are reversible so face the direction of travel and also have tables. Should you find some problem with allocated seats the on train staff are normally very helpful and will usually find some re-allocation for you, usually depending on the numbers of unbooked seats available.
