Entire Melbourne rail network grinds to a halt due to computer fault

Metro Trains says it will consider offering compensation to thousands of commuters left stranded after the entire train system went into meltdown.

Spokesman Marcus Williams said Metro will offer compensation for passengers left out of pocket due to the delays on a "case-by-case basis."

He declined to comment on whether it would be financial compensation or reimbursing passengers with free travel across the network.

"We urge anyone who was impacted by the delays to please contact us and we will consider their claims individually," he said.

Once again our train control centre fails and chaos. This time it fails smack bang in the peak. They'll be re positioning trains all night.

Knowing how incredibly well used the system is I would imagine that examining claims on a case-by-case basis will keep a decent number of people busy for a considerable period!

They changed thier mind on that one. Anyone who touched on after 3PM and before 7PM will be getting a refund automatically.
