Aureol needs YOU!

After much thought and discussion within the working group of members in the Class 40 Appeal, owners of me, English Electric Type 4 D212 Aureol, a Bogie Repair Fund has been launched.
Expected to cost in the region of £10000, it will not be a cheap task to repair the 10 cracks in my bogies.
If you would like to make a donation, cheques and postal orders are accepted, with the idea of PayPal being processed at the time of writing. Any amount of money is great, be it £10, £50, £100 or even £500.
I am due to move away from my home at the Midland Railway Butterley to Loughborough on the Great Central Railway in just a matter of weeks, and am due to partake in the GCR's 1960s event on the 14th - 16th March. An idea being passed around is possibly hiring a train hauled by me for a day on the GCR. Your thoughts on this please?

Another idea my owning group have been talking about is getting me on the mainline. It makes me sad just sitting here in my siding, which has apparently been named the "Class 40 Neck", while I hear about my sister 40145 running about all over the country hauling railtours. I would love it if you all loved me enough to donate enough money to let me stretch my legs again out on the big railway, running in and out of Euston, King's Cross, York, Newcastle, Carlisle, Glasgow, Edinburgh etc. You know, where I went every day when I was working for British Railways.
But that's just a distant dream and for now I am looking forward to my friends donating money to have my bogies repaired. I've been cracked since 1986 and they're really starting to hurt now.

unfortunately I'm afraid I can't, as I am investing in progects at the GCRN in Nottingham you could bring the class 40 to the Nottingham transport heritage centre, *hint* *Hint*

No, I'm not going there, I don't want to be burned. My owners' other loco, 50007 Sir Edward Elgar went there for a year or two a while back, she's all my owners are giving you!
Besides, I'm on holiday at the GCR for a year or two, earning money for my upkeep.
I hear the Churnet Valley Railway are interested in hiring me too, so that's another year sorted!

I like the idea of there being a train for 40012 all day on the GCR's upcoming gala, although I cannot be there to support the event (meeting some HST bashers up north instead).

I will donate towards the appeal the minute funds allow to do so. Hopefully that will be soon.

They'll not be able to use me on my own train on the gala, as I'll be running around on service trains, freights and TPOs etc, I think their idea is to run my own train on a normal day when there's nothing special happening.
I'll keep you posted on this anyway.

No.
I am not going to the NVR for the time being.
It has been made clear enough that I am spending this year at the Great Central and possibly next year too.
The NVR isn't out of the question yet, but is certainly a no-no for the forseeable future.

I'll just be sat in that siding at Loughborough most of the time, whereas Baggy will probably only show up when there's work to do on me or when I'm running.
Either way, it's not a definate yet, as the contract has not yet been signed and I'm still sat in my siding at Swanwick waiting for shed space.

What the hell is up with you?
I've only ever donated £30 to the CFA, and that's through 3 membership subscriptions.
Pretending to be D212 is fun, adds a little bit of character to the whole thing (or so Gizzy told me). It only has a sticky through a request and because it's an appeal for repairing the bogies.
If you don't like it, don't donate. Simple.

Actually, the only monies I have ever received from published railway material were in fact donated to the CFA... I was also one of those withered by 40012s failure at Butterley last June. I shall more than likely be out for a blast at the GCR (although paying gala fares for 3 engines may rule out March!) and no offense was meant - pretending to be an engine doesn't 'add character' IMO and is just makes the CFA look silly.

It's not Aureol that creeks when moving, it's the dry flanges on the rails.

It has been posted on WNXX (or was it PD?) that part of the problem is that to move 40012 you would need an escort for the vehicle carrying it due to it being over the weight limit for regular transport. There are some other bits that affect it I believe, but either way the problem is that it can all take up to 8 weeks to organise.

I am looking forward to enjoying 40012 on the GCR though, whenever it gets there.
