Aureol goes on Holiday

The Class Forty Appeal's D212 Aureol will be venturing away from her home line at the Midland Railway Butterley for the 2008 season.
The locomotive will be this year's guest locomotive at the Great Central Railway, and is hoped to be taking part in the line's 1960s event on 14-16 March.
It is expected to remain with the GCR until at least September, and is expected to appear at the April and September diesel galas, as well as various running days throughout the year.

What will the Class 40 appeal field at their Gala (June is it?) this year, 37190 solid all day 8) Might have had 10 mile at the end of the day on the siding. Nice to see the 40 on tour though, it deserves somewhere where it can stretch it's legs as you've got to admit, butterly is on the small side

We were busy with 37314 and 50007 in 2006, 37314 having visited the SDR in June 2006, but last year was quiet, with D212 having 2 turns, same for 37314 and 50007 having just the one weekend.

Another cracking visitor for the GCR mind, obviously got someone upstairs with similar taste to myn! Will make a good fill in between 25035, although that would have to be fixed aswell first...

Any diesel activity at GCR before the 1960s event, which I presume will be fairly limited diesel wise on the Saturday as last year? Fingers crossed nothing comes up on the Friday for that one...

It wasn't out, flat batts IIRC.

AFAIK its bogies have been cracked since BR Days, got marooned at Mid Hants years ago as the cracks had enlarged sufficiently for it to fail its FTR or whatever to return north - somthing of the sort anyway was a few years ago!

The flat batteries were replaced with a brand new set in May 2007, costing us £3000.
The radiators have been temporarily repaired with a couple of bottles of radweld.
The bogies have been cracked since BR days and haven't really grown while under ownership of the CFA.
All in all, she's ready for the off. We're just carrying out the FTR on her at the moment.

I am sorry to inform you that D212 Aureol will now no longer be attending the Great Central's 1960's event. This is due to a cock-up on the behalf of the hauling company and the loco will now not move away from the Midland Railway until the end of April.

It is looking increasingly unlikely that D212 will be visiting the GCR in time for the diesel gala of the 11-13 April.
Plan B will, hovever, include the Class Forty Appeal's 37314 Dalzell appearing instead, with a move planned for Monday 7th April.

So a good loco will attend either way :grin: Unable to get to the gala on the 12th/13th of April as I will be heading to Llangollen for a spin behind 37240, do you know if there are any full day diesel diagrams being organised, e.g. 4 or 5 round trips as this would probably be of more intrest than a gala spent avoiding the spoon? 8)

There is a 'normal' two trips diesel diagram so presume it will get a spin on those, 27056 did last year. GCR are good for throwing out the odd event and extra trains, good type 2 day last year.

Only two trips, would have thought you could get 4 or 5 in during the day? Must have been great that type 2 day, I know you only went for the Ped, hope they don't decide to do an EE day and kick that heap out hock:

Our diesel diagram, on 'summer' Saturdays (ie this week onwards) consists of 2 round trips.

This Sunday is the exception because we have a 'Hall' day on, apparently, so no diesel.

I can't find the timetable for any day after the 30th of March other than the Diesel Gala one, does anyone have any gen as to why the site doesn't seem upto date, not good for anyone who is planning a trip this week/weekend as there seems no info?!

Its a very soicable lie in, have a nosey at Brush then head over move. Good way of recovering from a night before ! You an also do the chuff chuff if you are so inclined
