I'm curious to know about the introduction of Audio Frequency Track Circuits.

I'm aware that Audio Frequency TCs are less demanding on the insulation between track and their environment but conversely, they are limited to shorter block lengths. I think they were more widely introduced in suburban networks and had the potential to include coded information for cab signals (great for tunnels where radio was innefective).
Is AFTC still introduced in new build railway or in upgrades?
