Has anyone used this service - specifically in first class? I'd love to try both legs of the journey in the summer.

But what was the food like? And how much did it cost, or did you pay the upgrade fee? Thanks in advance as always

Food is very good quality but portions vary, but it’s 3 courses. The menu can be found online.

Food is included in the price of a first class ticket. Book 12 weeks in advance for the cheapest fare. Drinks are extra.

Search for my trip report thread Iskra’s Odysseys for detailed reviews and photos

I tried it last year. We went down to Cardiff second class and came back first. The food was really good and a proper meal on a train is an experience I'd recommend to anyone. It felt strangely civilized. I recall paying about £35 extra for the first class ticket.

I did the evening service last autumn. Highly recommended.

Check out the cost of the Premier Class upgrade for NPT-SHR on top of a HoW circular for a good day out. Assuming you're starting in the NW or W Mids.

I took this train a couple of weeks ago. The quality has declined, both in food and service. If you’ve not done it before it’s a good experience but I’d otherwise give it a miss.

This is something I've been wanting to do for a while. Wonder if it needs to be done before the franchise changes?
