I happened to be on Gobowen station last evening and note the CIS on both platforms now list the number of cars on services, EG 1943 Gobowen/Holyhead two car service, this appeared after the list of stops.
I had not noticed this before, is this now general practice in ATW land.

I shall have to pop into Llanelli station and have a look, it's not something I've noticed, but I rarely have need to look at the screens.

I've not noticed it on the North Wales Coast either.
I'll have to look more closely next time!

Thought this was a national spec now. Has been ongoing in most areas for a good while now.

North Wales Coast boards have been showing "Virgin Trains Only tickets not valid on this service" (where appropriate) since Virgin introduced their own fares to Manchester, but I hadn't noticed any reference to train length when I last travelled.

I can confirm this has started appearing at Swansea too, and it was present on most of the Marches services as I came southbound from Crewe two weeks ago.

Threw me a bit when it told me my HST only had 7 cars - I always thought FGW ran 8+2 consists. I wanted to count them, but given the time in the morning I went straight to my reserved seat in C. On alighting at Reading (after some rather annoying disruption involving a points failure at Westerleigh Jn, then reversing back through Parkway and going via Bath/Chippenham) I had to make a 3 minute connection onto a XC so simply didn't get chance.

Fishguard & Goodwick departure screen was correctly showing the number of coaches yesterday as the two car 158 ran in on the boat train.

Is that the WAG Express?

I saw it travel through Gobowen on Thursday, no one in first and lightly loaded in standard. When the line goes to 90MPH,I wont be able to do a "look/see"

We've got them at Newtown. What are they suppose to do discourage you from travelling when you see the numbers on the platform versus the 2 car train approaching?
[/QUOTE

I don't know how reactive the system is, when a three car is shown, then a two car arrives, I presume the supposed diagramme is loaded in the system.

Just off ATW for a minute but same topic. FGW have shewn them for a time now and when at Westbury one day, 13 08 Weymouth to Gloucester was announced as having 4 cars. It arrived with only 2, it attaches 2 at Bristol TM and 4 thence. This seems to indicate that the 4 cars are shown throughout the journey and not just on the appropriate portion of the journey.

Indeed, it can be confusing when a service is about to arrive and the departure board says "5 coaches" and then automated announcements say 2 coaches!

Cathays, Cardiff Central, Cardiff Queen Street, Cardiff Bay, Heath Low Level, Heath High Level, Barry, Barry Island, Coryton, Penarth, Wrexham General and Wrexham Central are all showing the number of coaches, so I imagine it's a TOC wide roll out.

No auto announcements about number of coaches yet in ATW land,in Wales this would be tedious due to Bi Ling announcements, with all respect to everyone.
The problem is not that the announcements are in two languages - at my local station in Switzerland, all announcements are in three languages - but that the announcements themselves, as at almost every station and on every train in the country, are unnecessarily long-winded.

In Switzerland there also seems to be no bitterness about announcements in more than one language, unlike on this forum.

You don't have 12 Tph in each direction using each side of an island platform though. A nice country junction with 1 Tph and lots of platforms for a branch train to connect loads of time for the linguistics.

I can confirm Llanelli shows the number of cars. It did for the 5:28 Manchester service this morning anyway. Shame it does not state the type. Ie. If it showed pacer, it may see people running away ;)
