I'm currently on 0730 Manchester Pic to Carmarthen and it's formed of 158823 and wondered if this is regularly a 158 or if it was substituting for the normal 175?

Okay thanks. I saw the RTT and it said 158 I know that's just timing and not allocation. Also the reservations seemed to be right right seat numbers and direction are the 158/175s the same seat layout so they're interchangeable without messing up the reservations?
It's diagrammed (on RTT) for a 100mph unit, i.e. a 175...
Id still like to know how man cars made up this 158, my guess 2 in place of a 3 car 175.Once again, it is not diagrammed for anything on RTT. This is the Timing Load, i.e. suitable for anything which can run at that speed.

Occasionally if neither a 175 or a 158 is available a 150 will work the service, either 2 or 4 car although this tends to happen more on Sundays.
IMO 175s are great trains but I am still really impressed with Arriva's 158 refurb, they feel like new trains! Always a pleasure to travel on either of these two units.
I've always been pretty comfortable on a 158 or a 175, whether making the short hop between Llanelli and Swansea, or going all the way to Manchester. Mind you, I usually wear layers so I can regulate my own temperature!
I love both the 175s and the 158s. I just wish the 175s had plug sockets!
Amen brother, the sooner they fit them the better!
I agree, it would be very useful on long journeys.
