ATW Graduate Scheme

Hi,

I applied to the ATW graduate scheme last month, and the closing date was Dec 31. Anyone know when they should get back to applicants? The job doesnt start until September so im not expecting it to be very soon.

Also does anyone know what the assessment entails, as the website doesnt have any info on this?

Ahh bad news. Didnt even get invited to the assessment centre

Not feeling good atm with so many knock backs, not ever been invited for an interview/ assessment centre despite 30 rejections from numerous graduate jobs

Graduate schemes aren't the only way to get into Railway management! Do look regularly at TOC's websites for suitable vacancies!

I did exactly the same thing applying for graduate schemes(Applied for them all and didn't get any). I then went down the route of a junior role in HQ and now I've just grabbed myself a management role. I believe I got to this position quicker than if I went through any of the graduate schemes and now I have the benefit of working for several different TOC's

Guess thats right, very few of my friends have been interviewed never mind offered a job. Most of us have applied to 40/50 plus graduate jobs and a few to much more. (One person I know has been offered a graduate job and his father is senior in the company)

Its very disheartening applying to so many jobs and just getting flat rejections. Im on course to get a 2.1, good A Levels and have had a part time job for two years during my first two years of university. I suppose im not an amazing graduate but not that bad.
I a long time ago gave up on only applying for jobs in South Wales as that would get me no where. The problem is when I graduate I will have to move back home and it will be difficult to get to interviews etc outside of South Wales. Plus jobs in shops and similar (which are few and far between) wont take you on because (rightly in my case) they think people will leave for a better job asap.
Also I cant afford to do a masters so that is out of the question :/.
Sometimes I wish I just did a degree like nursing with a guaranteed job at the end.

Most employers will not take on anyone who doesn't have at least a 2:1, seems to be an unwritten rule across the board. Plus, not only are you competing for jobs with this year's graduates, but also the ones from past years who haven't got jobs, and those who have been made redundant with industry experience.

Best advice is to apply for everything going (including 'normal' non-grad scheme jobs) and I'd also look to see if you could do a postrgrad qualification, if you can find the funds.
