I have been informed by staff at my local Arriva run station that ATW drivers are threatening to strike over key dates during the forthcoming rugby world cup.

I stress this is a rumour, however my source is convinced there is truth to this as a pay deal they thought had been done and dusted has been put on hold.

What is the real reason for the strike call?

The news will obviously make it out to be over money but that is rarely the issue!

Cant see anything on ASLEF site about strike ballot. As the world cup is starting next week I can't see a ballot being held and strike action taken before the end of the cup.

It looks to me as though the rumour is untrue. There would have to be a ballot before strike action, and that would most certainly have reached the media by now.

and there certainly wouldn't be time to process the ballot and arrange action in the time frame available before the rugby world cup starts. Looks like scuttlebutt......

Since we don't have any source for the rumour, and it may have just been a bit of gentle teasing, I'm going to lock the thread.
