ATW Class 175 maintenance

Is it me or do ATWs Class 175s look like they need a big refurbishment as they seem to look a bit poor considering they were repainted in 2008/9 and the interior was lightly done to make it more Green rather than Purple around 2011 (I think FNW purple suited them more.) This doesn't do them any justice as I think they the best DMUs in the ATW fleet with the 158s just behind and they are one my favorite DMUs,I wonder if its an Alstom thing or Arriva being Arriva as their 220/1s on XC still have bits have Virgin influence all over them

I don't travel on them very often but on the two I have been on in the last year or so I would tend to agree with you, they were very noticeably grimy around fittings such as aircon ducts etc. I think just a thorough deep clean before resorting to a full refurb would be a huge improvement.

Upgrades not likely until the franchise is re-let in 2 years time.
W&B rolling stock has bigger problems than the interiors of its 175s.
I gather a couple of 150s have been loaned from Northern, which is at least a benefit of both being Arriva.

Agreed the 175s are definitely in need of an interior refurbishment including a good deep clean. They are still very nice units and fine to travel on but really showing the age of their interior. They would also benefit, considering the length of many of their journeys, being fitted with wi-fi and sockets.

But, as above, sadly it probably won't happen now until the next franchise in a few years. Though maybe it might be possible to get them a deep clean?

I've only been on one when doing a Cheshire Day Ranger, but I was quite impressed with them. I think a 4/5 variant would have been perfect for lots of not quite Voyager XC routes but something that needs more than a 170.

I made a journey on a 175 earlier this year and they are definitely in desperate need of a thorough interior refurb or at least a refresh and deep clean. The seats were as hard as benches, not ideal for a long journey.

Ironically, the ATW 150s that have been having exterior re-paints and interior deep cleans and refreshes, including new seat coverings and fillings, I'd say are in a much better condition internally than the 175s.

I agree, I've been on 175s several times this year and I think it's time they had a refurbishment and repaint, although as it's been said I can't see it happening any time soon unfortunately. I still think they're still good units though.

Better condition perhaps but given the choice I'd still take the 175 over the 150. Having spent the better part of two hours this morning/afternoon on one of them I'd have been much happier on a 175!

I totally agree. I travel on them regularly, and they do need a fair bit of attention, despite them still being amongst my favourite units to travel on.

With the franchise up for renewal soon, I really can't see ATW spending any money. They don't like doing that at the best of times.

I absolutely agree with the above comments.
AS a regular traveller of 175's they are pleasant to travel in, but are looking very tired especially when compared to the 158's which I think Arriva have done an excellent job in refurbishing.
