I'm wondering what the progress on the refurbishment of Wales' 158s and 175s is. If I'm right work on the 175s has started and one 158 is away being done at the moment. Is this correct and if so are any of the workings into west Wales likely to be a 158 seeing as 175 availabilty is limited by the refurb?

I don't think I've ever seen a 158 west of Carmarthen and would very much like to photograph one in this area, especially on the Fishguard or a clean blue and silver one (very unlikely, as they are so often dirty).

A 158 (possibly 829...cant quite remember but definitely corporate liveried one) worked the 0543 Carmarthen Pembroke Dock Yesterday.

The first refurbed 158 is due out Monday and will run to Canton for final checks before entering service. Crewe LNWR encountered a number of unexpected problems during the overhaul but these have been addressed so the remaining units will not take as long.

A large number of 175s have received their overhauls already,

So, a refurbed 158 is coming out Monday. Is it true that the Cambrian lines are now in a 9 day shut down to switch on ERTMS, and is at least 1 175 away being refurbed?

If so, sounds like Wednesday (my day of) or next Saturday could be a good time to go 158 spotting in Pembrokeshire, what do you think? Any chance of Fishguard being anything other than a 150 either of these days?

Was it a red herring or was the unit released? If so any eye witness accounts?

Yeah, I'd like to know this too. Any updates, and if it is out, is the next one in and are the romours that it is in WAG livery true?

By the way Wednesday was a no-score, 3 175s on the Milfords and the normal 150 on the Fishguard. At least one of the 175s was refurbished (could see different seat covers through the window, still has the First purple strip on the interior though), how many of them are left to refurb?

I travelled on a un refurbished class 175 last thursday on th 16:04 from Cardiff to Carmarthen & Milford Haven, Think it was 175113.

I have not seen any un refurbished 2 carriage class 175's so i think they must have all been done

Also noted last thursday was that there was 1 of the ex london overground class 150's at Pullman rail and a ATW class 153 there as well

Correct me if I am wrong, but

All 2 Car 175's are done 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008, 009, 010, 011.

The 3 car 175's done are: 103, 104. 105, 106, 107, 109, 110, 112, 115.

That leaves: 101, 102, 108, 111, 113, 114, 116 still left.

The 153's done are: 153367, 153320, 153323, 153362.
However are on 367 they have put the old seats back in.

Left to do are: 153303, 153312, 153327, 153353

Hi,

108 is definitely done, I have travelled on this train ~ 2months ago and it was refurbed. I believe (although not 100%, maybe 95%) that 102 and 111 are also refurbed.

175102 has been refurbished inside.

Some of them are looking in need of another repaint though, only a couple of years since they took the First/Arriva ghost vinyls off. Think it was 175 005 that had a fairly big patch of rust on the front.

Another thing, did those 175 vestibules with the toilet always stink like they do now? It's bad enough at the best of times but when someone flushes in the disabled toilet it's horrible.

The vestibules + toilets absolutely stink in all of the units - I have travelled on the full set. There was a notable change post-refurb, but this has now reverted to how bad it was before.

I have reported it to the conductor a few times, their response has always been along the lines of "You think it's bad for you - try calling this your workplace"

I genuinely think that the area should be subjected to deep clean / fumigation. I work as a biochemist, and one day (if I feel particularly daring) I might try to culture whatever nasties are lurking, and send the results to ATW. Just to see the (lack of) response to the issue.

and whilst your at it, how about a similar excersize on xc voyagers? Theres a theme developing here - ariva rail franchises equals cutback on cleaners.
