What stock is this?
Arrivas' mark 2s, of which many, excluding those that have been tarted up for the WAG Express, are sitting around not doing very much.

Why not use Locos on the BHI to Holyhead? A good long rake (5/6) but still the problem of run arounds/ extra loco/ DVT exsists. Will MkIIs work with DVTs? How many 158s would be free if this happened?
Mark 2s used to work just fine with the mark 3 DVTs in Virgin days. Although for this proposal, I'd think that the remaining mark 2 DBSOs would be better suited, as Rhydgaled says.

The problem with using loco hauled formations on Holyhead to Birmingham services, as has been pointed out elsewhere, is that the trains split/join at Shrewsbury (IIRC), which would require a complete rethink of the Cambrian and North Wales coast timetable to accommodate the loco hauled trains.

And even the tarted up ones will be doing nothing from December when 67s + mark3s will take over any WAG expresses that retain funding.
