Reward offered after driver hurt

The train driver suffered a broken collarbone
A reward of £2,000 is being offered by a freight train operator to help police identify two youths who hurled a large brick at the window of a passing train.
The train was passing through the Beswick area of Manchester, between Ashbury and Philips Park, when two youths hurled the brick, police said.

It smashed through the windscreen and struck the driver. He was later taken to hospital with a broken collarbone.

British Transport Police (BTP) said it was a "reckless act of vandalism".

'Mindless attack'

Inspector Glen Alderson, from BTP, said: "It's vital that we find the youths involved in this incident who have been described as aged 12 to 13.

"This was a reckless act of vandalism leaving the driver badly injured. I cannot emphasise strongly enough the dangers associated with this type of crime.

"Due to the severity of this mindless attack Fastline is offering a reward of £2,000 for information leading to the successful arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this assault."

The incident happened on 21 August at about 2100 BST.

I agree with you this kind of act is not only vandalism on the railways but an attempt to cause harm to other people which they succeeded in doing which left an man in hospital… this kind of act is sick and anybody who does it or participates in this needs jailing (lets hope they catch the people responsible)

Muttley,I have to say I agree with you,it is attempted murder in my book as well,which sane person throws bricks at moving trains,but no doubt once they are caught and taken to court the sentence will be soft,the parent(s) will no doubt bleat "my little johnny wouldnt do that" or blame the local authority saying "well theres nothing for them to do".Society is in turmoil at the minute,look at the 11 year old that got shot in liverpool(sorry for going off topic).

I've been in a similar situation when youths threw a brick at the window of the passing bus I was on. Thankfully, the window only shattered and remained in place and there were no casualties.

I hope they get the idiot. Wow, people don't seem to understand that railways are dangerous.

They do it because IF the police can be bothered to investigate and IF the police can find them and IF they`re prosecuted and IF they`re found guilty then they`ll get a slap on the wrist.
