ATP and AWS

I've tried searching for this but not found anything useful...

Can anyone tell me if the ATP fitted parts of the Great Western Main Line also have AWS "ramps", or do they rely now entirely on trains having ATP/ETCS?

I believe AWS/TPWS i still active because XC and FOCs and WCR / VT / LSL all run along the GWML and none of those have ATP fitted. Also guessing the hire in 57s for the Cornish Riv aren't even if 57602-605 are.

The 165/166 fleet operating out of Paddington never had ATP, and nor did any locomotives, so it was still necessary to provide AWS and TPWS.

AWS and GWML ATP are completely separate systems. So for the track mounted equipment, the AWS is mounted 200 yards on approach to the signal. The AWS using standard pattern equipment.

The ATP signal beacon is mounted literally just before the signal. However, optional ATP infill loops or infill beacons can be installed further back, so up to about 800 metres on approach to the signal.

The ground equipment for AWS and ATP is controlled independently from different outputs from the signalling system.

On the trains, again, the AWS and the ATP are separate systems.

Also note that the GWML ATP starts/stops just east of Bristol Parkway and starts/stops at North Somerset Junction just north east of Bristol Temple Meads. So even for a train from either station, a working AWS system is required.
