Can I buy tickets at the reduced rate for non railway staff if I'm travelling with them?

I'm going to be with my partner who is due to receive her pass soon anyway but not before we travel.

Any advice would be good thanks

The way ATOC/TOCs are at the moment, a man in a wig would be making a decision if you did use it for someone other than you. Even staff with VALID passes are being penalised recently when they've done nowt wrong, usually because the TOC has taught their new employees incorrectly!
