Atherstone to Chester

Hi all,

I’m looking for fares and possible train times for the following, please.

3 adults (2 travelling with Two Together railcard).

Travelling from Atherstone (Warks) to Chester.

On Thursday, 10th or Friday, 11th December.

Departing Atherstone after 0900 and returning from Chester after 1700 and returning on the same day.

Ideally first class for as much of the journey as possible, but I appreciate that this could be expensive, so also considering standard class for the entire journey or possibly a combination of standard and first class tickets.

Excluding discounts, Atherstone to Crewe advance first class each way for about £17 (London Midland only) for a total of around £36 per person.
Plus then an Anytime day return between Crewe and Chester £11.90 (no first class).

Obviously you'd need to commit to particular trains up to Crewe though.

For standard class on Thursday 10th:

Atherstone 0900 - Crewe 1024: £21 for 3 x £7 undiscounted Advances (i.e. booked ahead and valid on booked train only)

Crewe 1049 - Chester 1113: £27.60 anytime day return for 3 adults with Two Together discount for two of them

Chester 1655 - Crewe 1718: use return portion of the return ticket

Crewe 1802 - Atherstone 1928: £16.20 for 2 discounted Advances, and one undiscounted £7 Advance

Total £64.80

Why no first class between Crewe and Chester? The earliest journey opportunity each way is on a Virgin train (which has a first class section), and first class returns are available for £16.50 each with a railcard.
