Replying to myself... Just had a quick look on Bahn.de and that train Craiova Sofia seems gone already. Replaced by two locals with change in Vidin. Looks like this track on the new bridge Calafat Vidin over the Danube river is traveled only by one train per day...
And for the best - the Craiova-Vidin replacement is a modern CFR Desiro, usually - which gives you some more comfort on this stretch!

When it isn’t a Desiro what happens, do you know - The CFR 82s aren’t passed to Bulgaria AFAIK, what works over the bridge?

I don’t know what you had for “comfort” but the FC compo coach we had knocks spots off any Desiro for seating!!

The Băileşti short workings were railcars from what I observed (class 77) so perhaps that, but my impression is that they are normally worked by Desiros. I'm the kind of person that likes modern seating and interiors (e.g. a 387) so I like the Desiros - the aircon/heating and soundproofing of a modern unit make them a lot more pleasant than the BDZ coaches, purely objectively. There are, of course, other reasons to prefer a loco..

Well, at the speed you travel over there, being able to open windows and lean over them is quite nice. It's also nice for taking pictures. With a modern unit you lose that possibility.

By the way, Craiova Calafat is not under wire so if désiro there is, it must be a diesel. It's only under wire between Golenti and Vidin.
