Is there access at Colton North to get photographs?

Yes, there are overbridges at Temple Lane (Copmanthorpe) and Colton Lane (the road from McDonalds at Bilbrough to Appleton Roebuck village).

If parking particularly at the latter please ensure to park so as not to obstruct gates etc.

Wasn't Colton Jn (or another close to York) the first 125mph junction in the UK?

I believe so as the Selby diversion was the first track built for 125mph rather than upgraded to that speed.

The turnouts at Temple Hirst Junction are well below 125mph for the diverging route - 40mph* at most, I think? Colton's the only one (in the country, apart from possibly HS1) that I'm aware of that's 125mph for both routes.

Edit: * - just checked the Sectional Appendix, and it's 70mph at Temple Hirst across the crossover and onto the single lead.

There is a set a Rugby with 125mph turnout speeds for both routes on the down, towards Coventry or the Trent Valley

Thanks - thinking about it, I'm sure I did read about those when they went in. Can't think of any more though!

Didn't the rugby ones get taken out or something?

Not sure whether its the points themselves or just the plain line that's being worked on.

Near where the 3 ridings meet

The latter bridge is at Colton South a long way south of the work site (1 1/2 mile approx.)
Colton Jcn itself is also in between Colton North and South.

Think the work is also on on going on Saturday/ Sunday too, as trains from Hull are been replaced by road transport again like the other weekend

The work site stretches to Colton south ladder though.
