Astigmatism

I had an eye exam today, after noticing recently my eyes were becoming tired more often.
My uncorrected eyesight is 6/7.5 and 6/9, with an astigmatism in the lesser eye.
The optician recommends glasses for driving, vdu work and long periods of tv watching.
Is this going to be a problem for a safety critical post in train dispatch?

I'm shortsighted with an astigmatism and found no problem in become a guard. As long as your eyesight can be corrected to within railway limits by glasses and or contact lenses it isn't a problem.

As far as I know being red-green colourblind is the only immediately game ender.

Yeah, can be corrected to perfect with glasses.
I had an eye test for an airside driving permit n part of that is the Ishihara and Lantern tests, so colour blindness isn't a problem.
Just thought I'd check as I didn't want to go through an interview n then dash my hopes by failing the medical due to bad eyes.

i too have an Astigmatism & my prescription is -4.75 +5.75 @ axis 92, i wear glasses & im pretty sure I have adaquate vision to apply as a trainee train driver in due course, was worried to start with & couldnt find much info on this subject?

I have astigmatism in both eyes. I'm corrected by +1.75 in both eyes and I had absolutely no problems passing the medical. I took my current optical prescription along just in case and all they did was copy the details over.

A trainee driver I know who has just passed out told me that his eyes are both 4.25 & he is basically blind without his specs or contacts, dunno about astigmatism tho, is it really a big deal having astigmatism?

Is a lazy eye is a "game-ender"? I've never applied for a safety-critical job under that assumption because it affects me, but being a bit foolish I've never actually asked.

I can drive and pass a Snellen chart with glasses on if it makes a difference. Apologies for the thread hijack.
