Assisted dispatch at Ashford (Surrey)

Sorry if that's not the right word for it, but the last couple of evenings I've got off the train at Ashford there's been a guy with a bat giving the right away to the guard. This is unusual because for as long as I can remember (over 20 years) Ashford has been unmanned apart from a part time ticket clerk in the morning.

Has there been any platform accidents or near misses recently to prompt extra safety measures.

When I lived there a few years ago there was a younger guy in the mornings occasionally too. Very on/off - I wondered if it was for training or something

Assisted dispatch during peak times was added to Ashford station when the Windsor line first went 10 car with the 458/5s a few years ago.

The same happened with egham a few years ago.

Except the dispatch guy disappeared without a trace about a year ago and was never seen again
