Can anyone recommend materials for Trp1 please? Possibly a book from somewhere like Amazon on adult comprehension tests? I want to work out if I’ll perform better if I make notes and then spend the rest of the time after the audio is finished by rereading my own notes or reading the passage again until time is up.
Any tips on technique please?
I had the exact same concerns as you, I tried 3 different techniques on my practice material.
1. close my eyes and listen to the text being read and visualise what was being described.
2. listen to the text and read it at the same time.
3. listen and take notes.
For me trying to listen and take notes was by far the worst technique, I found it massively distracting. listening to the text being read and reading it at the same time was ok but by far the best for me was to close eyes, listen and visualise.
Mine was on testing train brakes using the different colour lights and dials in the drivers cab. The text was extremely descriptive and super easy to visualise, so in the test I closed my eyes and pictured myself in the cab looking at what was being described. In the time after (I think 3 or 5mins you get), rather than making notes, I drew a picture of the dials/buttons and the lights, marking on each, things like RED, GREEN, YELLOW and on dials crucial psi pressures.
I worked like a charm. After the test I noticed the test administrator watching me closely, he asked me why I had chosen to draw a picture rather than write notes, I said because it was easier to visualise. He later went on to say that this is a technique that the trainers advise you to do in the training of becoming a driver!
What works for one doesn't necessarily work for someone else, however, it is proven that the best way to commit stuff to your memory is to include as many of the senses as possible. So if you can see it as well as hear it, that's 2 senses as opposed to just 1 listening/hearing.
I also had a sneaky suspicion it would be on train brakes from info I had read on here and speaking to others who had recently undergone the tests. So I watched every YouTube video possible on train brake testing procedures.
