Do TOC’s have their own MMI pass criteria? For example, if you passed an MMI with Chiltern can you use the same MMI pass with West Midlands Trains or Great Western etc? Or do TOC’s have their own standards for MMI. This is something I’ve always not been 100% on. To simplify is an OPC MMI pass for train driving universal to all TOC’s/FOC’s? Cheers

It is not an OPC MMI, its is the RSSB that set the process, but to answer your question all TOCs (not Avanti) would accept a pass irrespective of whichever TOC the person passed with

Thank you, I originally thought it was only a few questions out of the 6, but thanks for clarifying this. Do you know if the questions they ask are typically the same ones, like

• Give an example of a time when you have had to follow strict rules or procedures
• Give an example of a time when you had to do a job to a high standard although you were faced with difficulties
• Give an example of a time when you had to carry out a task where it was very important not to make a mistake
• Describe a time when you had to take control of a pressurised or emergency situation
• Give an example of a task you have carried out which is similar to an aspect of a train driver’s job
• Give an example of a time when you have had to persevere to learn something new

Can anyone advise on the TEA-OCC test?

Does anyone know where there is any practice material for this test?

I have recently applied for the Gateline Assistant/Service Delivery Assistant at GWR but unfortunately have been unsuccessful at their online test (Standard eArcu Customer Service SJT). Can anyone advise me on how I can pass this assessment?

I believe that nobody can answer that question. I've done circa 30 of them and have only passed 3 or 4 in total. Even with trying to look at the questions from a safety point of view or a customer point of view or even a management point of view. Even writing the answers down doesn't work. Who knows really.!!

Hi all,
Has anyone completed the SJT for drivers test for Great Western Railway? I didn't get an interview for their last round of trainee drivers and I scored in the 99th percentile for error checking and 45th for SJT. I'm looking for any tips or tricks to help bump that up for next time applications open up.

The SJT is hard to give advice on because it's all about how you, the individual would react to specific scenarios.

I don't really get what you mean though, like the answers I gave are how I would react to specific scenarios, but they mark it so obviously there are correct reactions to have. I'm looking for advice on how to determine those reactions, since I already know what my instinct is.

You should focus on safety, following rules and procedures and communication.

These are 3 core requirements of the job and ones you will be thoroughly tested on in the psychometric process.

You should answer with your instinct. If you try to game the system and get through you will be a more risky driver, and if that leads to incidents there will be negative outcomes for you and others. The assessments used are designed to find people with the right attitudes and aptitudes, the way to pass is to have the right attitudes and aptitudes.

I have been invited to an assessment centre for Northern rail, applied as a trainee driver.

Apparently it's split into 2 parts, group takes problem solving, communicating with team, observations, then if you pass that you stay for the second part which is 121 interviews.

I think they must have changed the process recently because everyone I've asked has no idea about an assessment centre and said it was just interview + psychometric test.

Does anyone know what I can expect from the group assessments? I'm fairly well prepared for the 121s but need to get through the group stuff before I get to that stage.

I've heard building lego whilst watching a video and answering questions about it?

You are only required to give your best answers based on your own judgement.
There aren't any advanced learnings required in order to pass the test and if you continue to approach it in that way it can only lead to further fails.

I mean, I literally did pass it... just looking at how to improve the score. My own judgement in these specific situations is what I am looking to improve upon. I'm not sure why you don't think judgement is something that can't be improved upon but would you give the same answers now as you would have at 5 years old? I would hope you have learned since then, and I am looking to learn more and asking for advice in that vein. If you're not going to contribute to the discussion then I don't know why you are responding...

I mean if you have another way of looking at it then I would take some advice. All I gathered from your comment was to "take the test again, changing absolutely nothing in your approach" because using my judgement is what I did first time around. If that isn't what you meant then my ears are open.

I’m not certain what answer you are looking for. These are long tests with lots of questions, just answer them realistically and honestly. If that’s what you did last time and passed I can’t imagine what help you need, your judgement in the situation was inline either what the organisation was looking for. You passed the test…You aren’t being tested on rules that a train driver follows, so no need to have better knowledge of them, you are being tested on situations with rules

I’m not certain what answer you are looking for. These are long tests with lots of questions, just answer them realistically and honestly. If that’s what you did last time and passed I can’t imagine what help you need, your judgement in the situation was inline either what the organisation was looking for. You passed the test…You aren’t being tested on rules that a train driver follows, so no need to have better knowledge of them, you are being tested on situations with rules

I think we are talking about different tests, the one I mean had 19 questions and was timed online, I think around 15 minutes. It wad the first assessment in the GWR recruitment process

Nobody knows how the tests are scored/marked. We don’t know the answers you gave to the questions you lost marks on. You’ve already been given the best advice which was answer honestly as the person you are and follow the basic criteria of safety, procedure and communication. You’re in the same boat everyone else has ever been and will ever be, myself included. It’s down to you on that particular test to get a higher mark, maybe try RTFQ and take a little more time on considering the options? Not being smart with that answer, but quite often people get a bit ahead of themselves and think they know what’s being asked, without seeing and understanding what’s actually being asked.

Does anyone know how rigid SE are with colourblindness? I know they do the lantern tests now. I generally get 0-3 wrong on the online tests but never red-green. Will I likely be fine? If not what will happen?

No, we don’t know how the test are scored for each question. Since you clearly do by your answer, then you’ve already answered your own question! So go out and smash it.

Sanity….just let me get my head around it. You sat the test, you passed the test, now you want more advice on how to pass it better. I’ve got to ask…do you know your scores, do you know which questions you scored high/low on. Not certain what advice you want, you could have scored 100% or 51%. So you know the grading of the marks…the most appropriate to the expectations of the operator…in that case there’s a clue…you passed because your answers align with their expectations. You’ve got all the information to know what you need to do.
