Hi

I am resitting the WAFV test soon which is the only test I failed. I think I know where I went wrong. I just have a question about it which hopefully someone could help me, obviously I click when it goes from grey to black but if flashes black then black then black would I click it three times or ONLY when it goes from grey to black?

I've been invited to stage 2 psychometric tests in Watford. Is this when the medical is also done? Or is this separate and on a day just for the medical? Do you get a heads up on when it will be like every other stage so far?

Thanks for all the help. I have my stage 2 next week but looking at the practice materials I have completed some of these already. I have just emailed them to confrim which tests I will need to do but I'm awaiting a reply on that part.

Stage 2 is the computer tests and I think the MMI. The medical is your last thing and separate. You’ll get sent practice materials as per the first set of paper tests.

I’ve just re-read the practice materials to make sure I have it right in my head. The flashing box is supposed to stay grey. Each flash would be a separate event so I would click three times on three consecutive times where the box flashed black.

Thanks for this. I think this is where I went wrong as I was only pressing the button when it had gone from grey to black. If it went black multiple times in a row I was not pressing it multiple times. It's good to know going forward!

Hi,
Can I just ask if anyone has passed their medical with an eye prescription of +5.5 in one eye? I’m aware that the limit is +5 but in ‘exceptional circumstances’ a higher prescription can be allowed.
I passed the actual eye test quite easily and was told even though I need glasses, I would be safe to carry on driving without them in the event that they broke.

If you passed, what are the exceptional circumstances allowed?

It's always best to dress smartly. I suggest wearing smart trousers, a shirt, and at least a tie—definitely not jeans. For reference, I wore a blazer, blouse, and smart trousers (I'm female).

Absolutely! I don't think you can be too overdressed for these things. Maybe not a ballgown or top hat and tails, but a suit will definitely not look out of place.

At my assessment, there was a mix. Some in shirt, tie and trousers. Some in chinos and shirt, Some in jeans, trainers and a zip top.

Personally, I just wore a shirt, tie and trousers.

Looking for a bit of advice regarding the WAFV test as this is the test I failed on before and am sitting it for cross country in January. I think I failed as I misunderstood the instructions. Can anybody on this thread that has sat it recently confirm if you press the button every time the square flashes black?

When I sat it I only clicked if it went from grey to black. So if it was grey and then flashed black three times in a row I only clicked once instead of three times.

I was the person who answered you originally. I see on another thread you were unsure if I’d taken the test from my answer. I have sat the test and managed to score enhanced.

Despite being told that we didn’t have to for the psychometric tests, I went suited up to everything. To me it’s all part of the recruitment process, so I wanted to present myself accordingly. Not everyone did however, some smart casual but very few in jeans casual from memory.

Computer Tests Overview. After reading the section on WAFV on the given link. Simply don't overcomplicated the task as mentioned. If you see it go from grey to black then click the green button, if its flashes as you mentioned and you're sure it's flashed which usually means it's shown the grey square before going black again then you click the button again even if it's happened in less than 8 seconds for example.

The test always makes it clear when it's moved on, more so after you've reacted by pressing the appropriate button.

Hi to anyone reading this. First time posting a thread so not sure if I’ve done it right?

I passed stage 1 of the psychometric tests first time and am due to sit stage 2 exams at the end of the week. However, I had a few questions so was wondering if anyone could help?

1) Firstly, what is the order of the tests?

If you fail one of the tests, do you sit the others like in stage 1 or do you get told to leave?

How many pictures do you view in the ATAVT?

And how many circuits are there in the 2 hand coordination test?

The second stage will very likely be the same, sit all the tests and find out at the end.

The others questions you have won’t be useful for you to know. The order of the tests you will find out on the day.

The amount of pictures and circuits you are not told on the day, the idea is you do your best and decide on what pace you want to use. This is part of the testing process.

You may find some on here providing specific answers but I would suggest ignoring them because of;

1: they may be wrong and lead to you making a mistake.

2: it’s somewhat defeating the objective of the tests.

Hi all, I have my assessment day tomorrow for trainee driver role for GTW (passed this just over 5 years ago on first application but failed mmi a few weeks later)

So tomorrow I'm doing the assessment day again, 5 years ago when I applied the MMI was a few weeks after the assessment day, is the MMI now part of the day tomorrow? Also as I passed assessments last time but am doing it again as it expired if I fail it I take it I still have a life? Or would my MMI failure be 1 lost life and a failure on the tests the 2nd?

I have applied to WMT and been told today that because I failed the tea-occ I am being taken no further

Is that because WMT required a high pass rate on that particular test against EMR?

Will this be the same for great Anglia as well?

No I did written tests with emr and passed

So because you took the test within the last 6 months you cannot retake it, your current pass result with EMR is not high enough for WMT’s enhanced standard, and since you cannot retake within 6 months; they cannot proceed any further with your application. This is probably a better explanation than you “failed”.

I get what you meant, but you only said written when there's written and computer tests, so I thought you'd failed the computer side.

But yes, if you only passed in September you wouldn't be able to complete the tests for WMT, so you can't progress any further as your pass doesn't meet their requirements.

You'll still have your two lives as you've passed and didn't retake OPC assessments to fail.. you just can't retake them as far as I understand it because you're still within 6 months of taking the tests.

Hi everyone. I have recently been offered a job as a Grade 2 Signaller, and I have my medical in three weeks time.
Im slightly worried about the colour blindness test. I have previously failed the Ishihara test when I had a medical to join the fire service 2 years ago. In that case I was able to take another test for colour blindness (called the City Colour Test, I think) which I passed with no problem.
Has anyone here had difficulty with the ishihara test, and been offered an alternative test? Or does anyone have any recent experience of attending a medical where colour blindness has been an issue?

Hello everyone, this is my first post on here as an aspiring trainee driver (another one I’m sorry )
I am coming from outside of the railways so I’m finding there is a lot of lingo to learn and rather a lot of potential restrictions on job applications.

So I’ve got two applications on the go right now - 1 is for trainee driver with GTR & for this I have completed the miniSCAAT test on the OPC and awaiting correspondence whether that was a pass or fail.
In the meantime, I have heard back from a trainee shunter role I applied for with South Western-who have invited me for an assessment afternoon to complete the following tests;

CP8.1 - Listening and comprehension test
RVCE - Communication test
NWT2 - Basic maths test
VWP1 - Understanding instructions.

My concern is my job aspiration is to drive over shunt. I am reluctant to put all my eggs in one basket but, if I fail any of these tests with SW does that mean that I can’t progress my trainee driver application with GTR?

This has all happened rather fast and I’m not aware of which tests cannot be taken within 6 months of one another, could the greater collective possibly help me figure my predicament out.

I am loving the discovery of this forum, it’s quite “old school” and brings back good memories of many car enthusiasts sites I used to be a part of.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with a question I would appreciate it alot. So I sat an assessment for a trainee train driver position on the 1/09/22 and recieved my results on the 7/09/22. Although I passed at national standard unfortunately I failed the enchanced standard. Officially now would I be able to re apply for these roles again as 6 months has passed, also is there anyway I could contact somebody to officially find out if that is the case

Yes as far as I’m aware, you can apply for new applications as you’re well outside the 6 month window. The only thing I’m hazy on is if you’ve used one of your 2 lives by failing the enhanced. I wouldn’t like to speculate, but I wouldn’t worry for now as worse case scenario, you’ve still got a life left (at worse, if not both).

Maybe the OPC would be better placed to answer your questions, but I thought it was only the psycometric tests that could count you out if you failed twice? These sound more like company specific tests.
