Good morning all

I applied for a trainee train driver role in 2019 and got through to the MMI and ultimately failed that interview due to lack of structure on one of my answers. I re applied again maybe a year or 2 ago, and it's been just pending for all that time but I have now just done the miniSCAT again. BUT I have now just booked a interview, going back through my last application I seem to have skipped the assessment day, does this mean I will end up skipping a MMI? As I remember we got MMI paperwork to set up the MMI questions.

Has the process changed? Or am I being fast tracked due to having passed assessments previously? And more importantly should I be prepared for a MMI still?

If you failed the mmi you will need to be prepared to do one

If your last assessment was in 2019 you will likely have to redo everything as the maximum validity period is 5 years

Yeah so when I look back my assessment day was Oct 30th 2019 so 5 years yesterday... so I was thinking I'd be invited to do them again but today I got the interview email and last time this interview was after I passed the assessment day so I'm guess they have allowed a few days? That's why I'm a bit confused haha

You may be having the DMI first and then if successful they will put you through for the assessment day

Hi, I'm going to the assessment centre in Glasgow for a 'Safety and Concentration' test for a Train Dispatcher role I've applied for at Kirkcaldy Station. I know what form some of the assessment will take (been sent practice papers) but wondered if anyone on here had done this particular assessment and if you can give me any info on what to expect? What I was wondering is if anyone has had any experiences of this and what I could expect on the day as it’s scheduled for seven hours.

I did it a few weeks ago expecting to read the story about GLOP again but had a different story instead. The new story is about a train braking system, it was similar in style to GLOP and it is easy to notice which information will be important to remember.

Please could someone help me, I sat the train driver assessments earlier this year and failed the VSE (visual search exercise) and was told I could not attempt it again at the same toc as I failed it twice (first time was at a different toc) the first time I took the VSE was at home as a online assessment. and I was under the impression that tests conducted at home does not count towards the 2 lives rule after reading a comment posted somewhere in this forum.

I’ve contacted the toc i failed with and they confirmed that this information is incorrect and that doing the test at home still counts towards the 2 lives if you fail.

Does anyone know if this is 100% correct?

That is correct and assuming you did it with the Overground then yes the VSE test done at home does indeed count to your two lives for that test.

It however doesn't affect your two lives for TOCs that do not use the VSE like SWR, GA etc

I’m nearly at the time for my medical exam and am still worrying, anyone know what the exact requirements for eyesight are?

I wear glasses and an a -3.5 in my left eye but with glasses I’m fine but without am short sighted but the other eye is perfect

Any help appreciated

You should be fine as I believe it's a minus 8 or higher that's at the limit for a driver. As long as the glasses correct the vision issue and that the strength as mentioned isn't much lower than roughly the above stated then you'd be fine.

Just have to make sure you're not colour blind(red green especially) which is simply a Ishihara colour test.

Use of a device that you need to rest your chin on and look thru what looks like a double lens telescope and read out what you see, objects or letters etc are at various sizes and shapes. Depending on I believe the level of the lines you can read up to basically needs to match some minimum standard + your glasses prescription being within limit. That I note was for my medical and could be different to yours.

depends on the day, should usually be without first and then with after if you wear glasses.

Hi all, excuse me if it has been covered before. On the two handed coordination test , would anyone have an idea what time is acceptable for each of the ten runs round the track. I know it is a test of accuracy and speed and going out the track has to be resolved as quickly as possible. Anyone who passed any idea roughly how long on each run is acceptable ?

The time isn't given but what I did was not rush and keep the ball within the track. You will get time to practice and you can start in your own time. Practice on a games console pad looking at an object. That's how I practiced before the assessment

I would suggest it is either exactly that and you need to do an assessment or it’s the system lagging.

It’s a track maintenance operative role with network rail.

I was told they’d let me know either way on Friday but heard nothing yet.

I thought the Driver Assements are done at Reading training centre or has it all changed? Any tips or advice on the Driver Assement would be greatly appreciated.

It will be an OPC assessment, so it will be at their base at Watford.
