Assessment Timelines

Hi Guys

Just a quick question regarding how long train companies will honour past assessments. I done my driver assessments in October 2010 passed all the tests except the structured interview. I am hoping to be shortlisted by FGW and am hoping that they will only make you do the tests again if it is more then three years since your last attempt. Can anyone shed any light on this please.

From the DB Schenker site

On passing the Train Drivers assessment you will receive your certificate, this will be valid for a period between 12 months and 5 years depending on which Train of Freight Operator you apply to. The results are Recognised by all Train Operating Companies

Seriously nowadays I don't think they'll be valid for that long.

I know first hand that one toc only takes passes up to 2 years because I had to resist some of the tests again.

I was talking to one of the heads of hr for southern the other day who told me "its a year but we are looking to put it down to 6 months".

6 Months is just ridiculous, as each re-assessment costs the company more money. Can that much really change in such a short time.

I know that you are asked by some TOCs to just sign a declaration of any 'life-changing events' since last testing....but any less than a year is surely just mad.

If you've passed the assessment then that should be it, you've passed it. Making you resit it again in any amount of time (whether its 6 months or 2 years) is rediculous. Their HR must be rubbish for making it 6 months.
If you fail it twice then your out forever, and no amount of time (or life changing events) will allow you to come back and retake it and you keep those failures on your record for life. It should work both ways. If you keep your failures on record for life, you should keep your pass qualification for life.
One could end up taking the psychometrics ten times during their job search due to passing the assessments and failing at the final interview stage, or getting put "on hold" for a long time and having to do them again.
One person could have a psychometric test record as follows:
Attempt #1 - Pass
Attempt #2 - Pass
Attempt #3 - Pass
Attempt #4 - Pass
Attempt #5 - Fail (due to taking the tests when ill with the flu)
Attempt #6 - Pass
Attempt #7 - Pass
Attempt #8 - Pass
Attempt #9 - Pass
Attempt #10 - Fail (due to going through a very bad period of insomnia)
Clearly the person in this example is capable of passing having passed 8 times but will now be banned forever due to 2 attempts made when not feeling their best.

yeh 6 months does sound a bit severe but I suppose:

a. they're only 'looking at' doing it..??

and b. If they were to put it to 6 months it would it only be to ensure that everyone who goes through driver training from the application form to passing out has done the same and ticked the same boxes?
