ASSESSMENT STAGE ONE ADVICE

Hi all, I am about to sit an assessment stage 1 in East London. I have a few questions. First is, because this is not at the OPC in Watford, does this still constitute as a strike if a fail ?

Second is, does anyone have advice or methods for the following tests:
- Group Bourdon (dots)
- TEA-OCC (directory and low tones etc)
- TRP 1 (information retention)
- TRP 2 (dials)

any help would be great!

I can't answer your first question, sorry but perhaps can help with the information on the tests. I have passed them to enhanced a few years ago and am currently taking them all again.

- Group Bourdon (dots) - Make sure to download the software that has a pinned thread in the careers section. It will give you more than enough to pass this test. Best to print them off as they will be done on paper when you go to sit them.
- TEA-OCC (directory and low tones etc) - Not much can be practised for these. You can either do it or not. For the directory all you need to do is circle the sets of symbols. You get given a whole story of why you need a plumber or trade etc- its not relevant. All that is relevant is your given a card with 4 sets of symbols. Circle any that you find on the sheet. The counting tones is not hard but you do need to find you own strategy that works for you. I would count on my fingers under the table with my eyes closed. For the part where you have to circle the symbols and count I would concentrate mostly on the tones as they move continuously. Although for that round there will only be one type of tone. Not a high and low.
- TRP 1 (information retention) Again you can't really revise for this. Either you can or can't retain information well. For me it was an A4 sheet talking about the application of GLOP and you then have to answer a series of questions. You have a certain amount of time at the beginning to make notes then they are taken away while answering the questions.
- TRP 2 (dials) The dials is very straightforward. You will have 4 'cables' which will be colour coded they need to be put in a certain order. IT gets a bit more complicated but honestly all the practice material you have been given is more than enough to be prepared.

Oh you were clear, I just wanted to hammer it home a bit more as so many seem to fail by not understanding what is exactly needed when it is probably the most simple part of the assessments.

The GLOP part if the assessments. Not sure how others had it.....but mine was a piece of paper with some info on it about a GLOP train....and they played audio of exactly the same text as I had on the paper.

I ignored the audio and just concentrated on the paper.....and simply went through it and made notes on the info contained on it in to ‘shorthand’ if you like.....made it much easier to remember in such a short time.

And it must’ve worked

Good info. I have my Stage One in Feb for WMT. It's the TRP that I'm most concerned about, think the others I can hopefully handle. Obviously you never know for sure though....

regarding the above, has this test changed in the recent years? I did this test 4 years ago with TPE and it was the matching the symbol to the telephone area code?

I only ask as I subsequently failed the GBT at my first attempt and I potentially have my second attempt coming up, so wanting to brush up beforehand. This matching double symbols sounds way simpler so just thought I’d ask in case I’m missing something obvious!

Thank you for this advice. I recently failed a VSE online at home for Freightliner. I was told as this was a home assessment done on my laptop that this does not constitute as a “strike”. Is this true?

As far as I am aware, only the Stage 1 and 2 OPC assessments carry two-life rules. These are the paper and computer assessments held on assessment days, and the Multi-Modal Interview (MMI).
Other companies hold their own assessments to narrow down candidates but these typically won’t have any life rules attached.

I completed mine last month and all we had to do was circle the double symbols. I have to say I found the actual test easier than the practice stuff that is either on YouTube or that you can buy.
