Hi guys very sad today i failed the 'dot' test yesterday the test which i was confident on but passed the glop and cable/dials test,just wondered if it goes against you when you apply again in 6 months and is there a limit to how chances you get on the assessment ???? Thanks in advance

You get 2 chances at the assessments. You have to wait six months but the failure from the first time should not have any affect on your second attempt.

But don't allow this to deter you from having another go, since you failed on the GB keep practicing until you master the technique.

Unfortunately out of the 2 life lines you have used up one of them meaning, 'this is it pal, this is you last chance in the game'!

Which TOC did you take the assessment with if you don't mind me asking?

All in all, chin up buddy (easier said than done) but you should be proud of yourself for making it this far!

'Two strikes and you're out'! applies to all TOCs and registered in the national database.

SE is a pretty good TOC to work for, was this position advertised internally and do you currently work for SE?

Now worrie. If you forget about and then reapply in six months with a completely clear head you give yourself a much better chance than if you are fretting that its your last chance. I went into mine with the attitude that if I passed then great but if I didnt then it wasnt the end of the world. I was relaxed and well you can probably gather the rest.

I passed first time, I am driving now yes. I'm just saying that if you go in anxious that its your last attempt you are likely to fail again, just go as relaxed as you can be.

Hi mate, sorry to hear you didn't make it this time. As previous posters have mentioned don't give up and practice like mad. In my own experience I felt it easier to make sure I got all the dots right without worrying about the speed in which you did them. As you get better recognising the 'shapes', the speed will come automatically.

If you had a copy of the "Glop" passage, that would surely be cheating?

There are tools available for practising for the dots test and the co-ordination test which are excellent but don't actually give you the answers which the Glop passage would!

The whole idea of the Glop passage is to see if you can remember important facts: a vital part of train driver training!

In the test, after the passage is read, you'll have a few minutes to make notes on important parts. All I would advise is signs and colours and their meanings are important! Make a note of them and remember them.

In my own opinion, that is the easiest part of the test by a long way so don't get too worried about it.

Indeed no wonder they are changing them as the are starting to become not fit for purpose.

What actually worries me being in the industry are new recruits getting jobs that are not suitable giving the other drivers a bad name as such however hopefully this will not happen.

I know a driver who just tranferred from LOROL!

Interesting the terms are so different shame it is not BR any more so damn complicated!

By the sounds of it i should hold my head high just for the fact i didnt cheat! Its my ambition to be a train driver ive got one shot and i refuse to cheat.

Whats the crack with doing assessments with different companies within the 6 month period? I passed the 1st part assessment with FGW 4 months ago, yet DBS wont consider my application as apparently I am unable to resit their assessment. Seems a little bit contradictory that it's classed as a national pass, yet not valid with some TOCs.
