Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting here and would like to ask some questions from anyone in the business or preferably First Scotrail.
As the title says after my first application online was made I have been fortunate to get an invite to the test centre in Glasgow for the Trainee Train Driver the was posted earlier this year.
Have done lots of revision for the tests and hope I can get through the day tomorrow, although there is a big problem looming for me if i do get far in the application process. It would be better for me to give a brief outline of my circumstances and see what you guys think.
When I applied for the post a couple of months ago I was then employed in England as a Prison officer at one of their maximum security establishments, further to this due to a good reason I had then been on their sick records since June 2010.
With my partner being Scottish and my 7 month old son living with me I was approached by a prisoner to smuggle goods into the jail for him, my obvious answer being no chance! I left it at that thought nothing more until a few days later had a knock at my front door to be confronted with 3 Jamaicans threatening to shoot me and my family if I did not do what I was told. This as you can imagine terrified both myself and my partner enough for us to move out of the house that day and made me understandably afraid to return to work.
My partner moved back with her parents in Scotland and I went to Newcastle to my parents until the prison could sort this mess out and move myself to another establishment. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way and after being ask to come back to work a number of times they told me either to sign off sick or resign. So with those options and a family to provide for I went to my doctors and he gave me a sicknote. This carried on until March this year when the Prison made me redundant. Now I am less than a day away from testing and classed as unemployed even though when I applied I was employed. Also the sickness record will show me as having close to 9 months sick and this has me obviously worried. Most companies would run a mile from those sort of figures.
What I guess I am asking is no matter how well I do am I going to fall short due to my past 12 months, which I've labelled the year from hell.
Any help would be great, thx Kev.
