A Split ticket option is
Ashchurch to Worcester Stations Off Peak Day Return without Railcard due to Minimum Fare £7.10
Worcester - Nottingham with Railcard £11.20
Total :- £18.30
Both However are set by CrossCountry and carry the horrible BX restriction code so are not valid for journeys starting between 1530-1815
so the two trains either side of this would be the 1505 or 1837 out of Nottingham.
The Alternative is a Ashchurch - Nottingham Off Peak Return which is £24.75 and is valid after 0929.

You could save 25p by getting a CDR from Aschurch but it's not worth it unless you are sure of not leaving Birmingham between 1530 and 1815.

Yeh I was going to Suggest this but it's only about £2 saving and blocks you from getting trains from Nottingham between 1530-1815, so I don't really think it's worth the saving, especially if you do decide you want to travel between 1530-1815.
It'd have to be over a £5 for me to be worth it.
