As asked for..Best pub near station thread

I'd like to mention "Y Gwydyr" in Dolwydellan on the Conwy Valley line. If you alight from the train there and walk along the road into the village then you can't miss it. The bar staff are really friendly, and they do a Welsh beef and Purple Moose ale burger which is the absolute best burger I have ever tasted. It's a really cosy little pub and there's usual two or three local ales on, with the Conwy Brewerys' delicious "Rampart" being a regular.

An absolutely fantastic little pub to have a couple of well-deserved pints after coming down from the hills

One near a station in West Midlands

Wolverhampton - Great Western - next to the old Low level station - quality Black Country beers (another Holdens pub!), big display of Wolves and Great Western Railway memorabilia - again CAMRA likes!

One near Euston

Bree Louise - just round the corner and a 50p a pint discount for CAMRA members!!!

Hum, any clues from the above and my name who I might support then?????

Shropshire stations with good pubs nearby:

Wem: Albion Inn
Yorton: Railway Inn (previously mentioned on this thread as the Station Hotel)

Shrewsbury: various - Salopian Bar (as mentioned already) is good, but is a few minutes walk from the station; other good pubs in the town centre, again a few mins walk from the station, are the Yorkshire House (near St Mary's church) and the Loggerheads (on Church Street)

Broome: Engine & Tender
Bucknell: The Baron (a few mins walk through the village... but well worth it)

Ludlow: instead of heading into the town centre, turn right out of the station's main entrance and see if the Ludlow Brewery is open. They have a bar. Also on that side of town try the Unicorn pub on Lower Corve Street.

Wellington: not that near to the station, but an excellent pub: The Cock on Holyhead Rd

Yup a great pub... shame it would be demolished to make way for the enlarged Euston! Hopefully they'd be able to retain it in some way... but I doubt it.

Another pub-near-a-station that immediately springs to mind is the Star in Glossop. If you're in Glossop pop in.. it's right by the station entrance.

I believe "Station Hotel" is written in paint on one side, visible from the railway line, but the actual name of the pub is the Railway Inn. I haven't been for a couple of years, but I can't imagine anything has changed. From the Shropshire Pub Survey website:

Yup, the Salopian is probably the easiest good pub to get to from the station. Otherwise you have to go up the hill into old Shrewsbury, or up Coton Hill to the pubs there. There are two Wetherspoons in Shrewsbury - the Shrewsbury Hotel and Montgomery's Tower - both quite near to each other, near the Welsh Bridge (and therefore near to the Salopian Bar also)... the Montgomery's Tower is excellent for its local real ales.

Hi there.

The Southampton Arms in Highgate Road is 5 mins walk from Gospel Oak station, about 10 From Kentish Town, and the newly opened Craft Beer Co is under 10 mins from Farringdon in Leather Lane, 2 of the best in London and regular haunts of mine.

15 Real Ales on at once and two dedicated ciders aswell.
CAMRA Pub of SW Northumberland 6 years on the trot including 2011.
Now CAMRA Regional pub of the NE. Here's hoping they get to get the top spot for overall Pub in the UK

The Tamar Inn, nr. Calstock Station. You get to go over the epic Calstock viaduct and then appreciate it from the pub garden with a pint of fine ale. The food is good, too.

Victoria Hotel - Beeston...
it's right by the station but not quite so straightforward to get to. Has plenty of decent ales and a large garden where they often have music on

Wentworth Arms - Penistone....
If you leave the main roadway down toward town it's the first pub you come to. Dark, gloomy does a reasonable pint - Uncle Mort would have loved it.

Unicorn Inn - Canterbury West....
Head away from the town centre and a few minutes is this place. A bit of a step back in time. A bit maroony, flock wallpaper, horse brasses and shields though with decent ale to go with it.

the griffin at court square in carlisle. Nothing remarkable but it has friendly staff, good no nonsense pub meals pool table and is 1 minute from the platforms. They are quite used to train passengers using it and turn round orders quickly. Oh and my mates GF says the ladies are clean enough. As I say nout fancy but an old friend to me

There are two Wetherspoons in Shrewsbury - the Shrewsbury Hotel and Montgomery's Tower - both quite near to each other, near the Welsh Bridge (and therefore near to the Salopian Bar also)... the Montgomery's Tower is excellent for its local real ales.

While the Montgomery's Tower does indeed do some great ales, I suspect that they have some recurring problems with underage drinkers chancing their luck due to the college being right next door: As such, they seem to be very strict at following the "Challenge 21" rulings, which, while I have no problem with presenting some ID when asked, in there I have witnessed on more than one occasion a policy of attempting to aggressively "stare down" anyone who looks younger than 25 (I'm 21 and I wouldn't say that I look young for my age), as if buying a pint as a young adult is a test of confidence to be passed before you are deemed worthy.

I was in there when the place had just opened and didn't have any problems, so I get the feeling that some of the longer serving bar staff have become fed up with being located next door to a college. Nonetheless, it's a well presented bar, and the ale is generally excellent
