It was bought to our attention the focus of certain companies has been swept under the carpet IE Arriva. So Hopeful this thread will help sort that out and people will highlight problems, fleet news and improvements.

Leicester had some service changes of late
https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/midlands/updates/service-changes-in-leicester-from-4-november-2017/

We're making changes to services in the Leicester area from 4 November 2017.

5/5A - Leicester to Melton Mowbray
Minor changes to improve timings with the timetable reflecting the amount of traffic at different times of day.
The route around Melton Mowbray town is revised to give residents a direct service to Leicester. Buses will operate a loop of Leicester Road, Edendale Road, Valley Road, Dalby Road, Queensway, Norfolk Drive and Burton Road.
Certain Monday to Friday peak hour journeys will be numbered X5 and operate from Melton Mowbray (Wilton Road) via the A607 to Leicester, omitting Asfordby.

6 - Leicester to Thurmaston
There are changes to this service to simplify this route and improve punctuality.
We will no longer serve Lonsdale Road and Ferndale Road, instead we will use Humberstone Lane.
The route beyond Thurmaston Asda is withdrawn due to low passenger numbers; Syston continues to be served by services 5/5A every 10 minutes.

An afternoon journey will start from outside Rawlins Academy on schooldays making it easier for children to board the service at the end of the day.

In the First group thread, Arriva has been swinging the sword yet gets very little mention or discussion. To balance it all out there is a thread covering Arriva in Central England.

I thought there were there 5 areas:

* North east
* Yorkshire
* Midlands/Central England
* Wales
* Kent and Essex

And to the best of my knowledge Arriva Midlands don't reach Chester, but the OP's intent seems a little unclear.
:s

I though since Arriva has been totally forgotten about. Maybe we could have a proper look at what whats?

Arriva North Midlands used to reach Chester when it ran the Crewe depot until the early 2000s, but Chester is now served by Arriva North West and Arriva Wales

In London Arriva only operate as contractor to TfL of course: in Surrey is it Arriva Southern Counties?

Arriva in the county of Surrey is only really Guildford (and Woking) and is part of Southern Counties. Arriva Kent and Sussex became Arriva Kent and Surrey about four years ago to reflect this. The 'Sussex' made no sense as it could only refer to a half-hourly service from Tunbridge Wells that sneaked over the border (now abandoned). More services into Sussex were absorbed with the Guildford operations then had been operated by Arriva Kent and Sussex for many years.

Arriva midlands north also ran winsford & Macclesfield depots for a year or 2 so reached manchester city centre, also oswestry depot ran into chester on a council tender on Sundays,
Arrivas performance in the north west is awful currently plus the area they cover is reducing every timetable change

There does feel like there are two Arriva empires in the North West.... Merseyside is clearly a powerbase and has seen some real investment over the years. The ops in Greater Manchester and Cheshire seem to be sustained on limited investment but perhaps that reflects the strength of those operations in justifying such spending.

Perhaps they are wary of franchising in Manchester.

Arriva are the big city operator in Liverpool, the successor to the PTE. In Manchester that is First & Stagecoach, Arriva Manchester are tiny in comparison.

Could it be said that Arriva are very conscious that their dominant position in Merseyside is always liable to being examined by the competition authorities, and therefore they have to be seen to be innovative, or, at the very least, spending more money on their operations than might otherwise be the case?:smile:

Very much doubt it. Arriva (and First) have a long record of poor investment in GM and have suffered recently at the hands of Metrolink (Wythenshawe depot) and tender losses (Bolton ops).
