Hi all, Next week I have an in-person assessment centre with Arriva for the role of Transport Management Graduate, does anyone know anything about it and / or have any advice to succeed

This is a post at CrossCountry. The assessment centre includes a business-related group exercise (such as simulating the decision-making process for budget cuts at a hospital). It is very important to demonstrate your ability to work cooperatively within a group whilst making a good contribution yourself.

Expect detailed questions to be asked about your presentation after it, and be prepared to have little down-time between activities.

Knowledge of XC's geography and unique operating circumstances are essential. Make sure you know the profile of the customers who use XC, the competition (i.e., road) and the financial structure that XC operates under (revenue to DfT, DfT pays fee to XC). Some awareness of the issues (overcrowding, traincrew shortages) facing XC might be useful but don't over-egg them.

Make sure you base your answers around the Arriva values.

The first placement in previous years has been in Control, so skills which are needed in a Control environment might be good to mention (working under pressure, communication, quick to learn etc.)

Do not mention enthusiasm for trains as this is not considered favourably by a couple of the people likely to be involved in the process.

There may be several current graduates who you'll be able to ask questions. Make sure you give a positive and professional image to everyone you meet (candidates and XC staff alike), and assume that everything you do at the assessment centre is being fed back to the assessors.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks, I'm on the research part for the Presentation, do you know where I can find information regarding the financial structure as I can't get much out of ORR websites and XC's financial statements

It’s more about understanding the National Rail contracts and how XC fits into that.

I know but I also need to send it relevant documents as part of a bibliography
A bibliography is only a list of sources. They won't be expecting you to cite the contact itself!
