I heard today that there were around 1400 applicants for the driver vacancies,

Very low amount for drivers vacancies, normally about that per vacancy. I think it's that low because it was not advertised for a specified time, only until they felt they had enough. Good news for the applicants!

You are probably right. Provided they can get sufficient quality people to fill the vacancies, there's no point keeping the advert open.

Why does everyone want to work on the railways. I do and it's not a funny question or anything like that. I just wondered why. It sounds like people would give their right arms for it.

Well, there are many reasons, I did it solely for the money and the security, you will find that most folks on this forum are enthusiasts and want to work on the railway to enhance their hobby maybe? I may be wrong but I doubt it :) (sits patiently and waits for the flack)

I'm with you TDK - the money and security. Worked on the railways, then left now trying to get back in.

Ha!

You me both MuttleyBOT:D

I left the rail industry for family reasons and now want back and find it harder than ever to get back in, where I strongly feel I rightly belong.

My love for the Railways will never end, it's a match made in heaven:lol:

@TDK - you hit the nail on the head (ouch)!

Good reasons folks, it is a great job as conductor and driver is probably even better. You sometimes read posts by people who fail to get in and they sound like they are going to phone the Samaritans. Cheers.

One of the best things about working on the railway is the pay is a lot better compared to similar jobs outside the railway. The railway has also got some jobs where the work is normally pleasurable, like mine.

Hi everyone :D Regarding the trainee conductor roles does anyone know how long you are likely to be 'on hold' for ?

Application was successful after assessments and interview but has been placed on hold..... No idea how long for :(

Congrats on your success! Which depot did you apply for?

I guess that's the nail in the coffin of my hopes that arriva were just slow in responding! I am still at 'shortlisting' online. Guess they picked the people they wanted and will get round to updating the others in time.

Well done all the best for next week. What depot have you applied for? Has the status on your application now changed from saying 'shortlisting'?

I'd imagine reaction test, Group Bourdon tests, trainability test etc... If you pass this I'd say managers interview and structured interview..

When I had the phone call today I was asked to attend an interview(there was no mention of any tests), bear in mind I've had no contact with ATW at all, apart from me applying for the post, so I just wondered if there was a set process ?

Can anyone assist at all with what the tests will entail in a little more detail ?
Thanks in advance

Not heard of an initial interview before.. Best to search on here for the selection process as you'll find all the info you need.. Good luck :)

Do some research for yourself on this forum alone there is a wealth of info, your first test will be to find out information on the company and what needs to be done!!

Sounds like they will be doing the managers interview first! You will be asked questions like what do you know about ATW? Why do you want to be a driver? How would you cope with a fatality etc? Im sure theres lots more info on here about the managers interview. Can i ask are you from wales? Im from the midlands but still at shortlisting stage.
