Just got on an Arriva rail replacement bus and showed the driver my trio ticket. He said I was meant to use the normal bus. He let me on when I pointed out I would have been using the same ticket on the train his bus was replacing. The guy is getting overtime replacing the train I would have caught. What was his problem? The bus was empty. This is the second time this has happened to me in a few months.

It was probably just a misunderstanding mate.

Yeah probably. Oddly enough I had the same driver three hours later heading home from town. He let me on without a word and I thanked him when I got off. All friends again I guess. Ha ha. Am sure he is a good fella just doing his job.

It's possible it was his first time on rail replacements so he wasn't sure, hopefully you won't have any problems with it again. :)

I get you but I think it was the same guy I had the problem with last time a couple of months back. Used almost exactly the same words, I wasn't meant to be on it and was meant to be on the regular bus. Maybe he doesn't know the Trio ticket is valid on the train.

It's likely mate, I know of some drivers who have been funny about accepting the SaveAways which get printed on the rail tickets rather than loaded onto the smart cards.

I had a similar issue in Manchester, a First driver said my Wayfarer which was printed on a rail ticket couldn't be used on the bus, although he begrudgingly let me on after I repeatedly told him it was. I got on a Stagecoach bus after that journey and the driver said it was valid despite the fact it was printed on a rail ticket. The mind boggles.

There's been correspondence in Buses magazine over years now about driver ignorance of various prepaid tickets, including instances of refusing to let passengers travel coupled with a refusal or inability to contact someone higher up to check. Naturally, and unforgiveably imo, some driver's ignorance was replicated at depot level!

I boarded a replacement bus earlier, saveaway in hand. Co-ordinators and the driver told me to get on, made no attempt to even check I had a ticket-never mind if it's valid or not.
