This map shows the validity of a North West Ticket (£5.20), but does anyone know which longer distance routes in this area are usually formed of double-deckers please? Thanks in advance :)

Here's the list so far:-

  • 1 Wrexham-Chester
  • 38 Crewe-Macclesfield
  • 52 Netherton-Liverpool
  • 10 St Helens-Liverpool

Thanks, are any of these double deckers?

Also are any of the routes through Crewe double deckers (other than Macclesfield)?

It looks like Manchester to Macclesfield is always singles, is that so?

The 130 has dedicated 'sapphire'd' single deckers, but very occasionally a decker has done a return trip on a Saturday afternoon. Not seen one for some months though.

What are the chances of the 1218 or 1228 from Liverpool (St Thomas St) to Chester being a double decker?

Oddly, the Merseytravel timetable says there is a 1218 departure, arriving 1400. However Arriva suggest there is a 1228 arriving 1401. Edit: just worked it out, the 1 & 2 tables are shown separately within the PDF document, and the 2 is quicker than the 1, so they both run.

The 38 Macclesfield - Crewe are operated usually by Sapphire branded Enviro 400 buses but ALX400's do occasionally step in, the service goes past my office in Macclesfield as do most other routes, so I can give reliable information on other routes if required as I just have to look out through the windows as they go across the roundabout.

The 130 is almost always single decker Sapphire branded Wright Pulsar's

10 & 10A, St. Helens - Liverpool are booked for double deckers (St. Helens depot), but single deckers can appear if they are short of double deckers. Note that 10A is shared between Arriva & Stagecoach as part of a Quality Plan, and the Stagecoach share is normally single deck.

52 Liverpool - Netherton is normally double deck (Bootle depot)

Liverpool - Chester is normally single deck.

10B & 15 Liverpool - Huyton
12/13 Liverpool - Page Moss / Stockbridge are also normally double deck (Green Lane depot).

Not on a regular basis, about the only one I have never seen a decker on is 6, and I think a low bridge might be a problem here!

I've never seen one on the 395 (which I believe now only goes as far as Skem, as opposed to Ormskirk), but the 375 and 385 routes Wigan to Southport are booked for deckers AFAIK

The 14 (City Centre to Croxteth Willow Way) and 18 (City Centre to Croxteth Park) will be receiving brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro400s in April.

Yeah since August 395 was split with the former Ormskirk portion becoming a increased frequency of the 310.

375 and 385 are Arriva Sapphire double deckers.

The £5.20 Arriva NW ticket is remarkably good value, given a WBT ticket, covering Warrington and a handful of other destinations, is £5.90.

A lot of useful info to take in, thanks :)

If anyone is in a position to check the 1218 or 1228 from Liverpool (St Thomas St) to Chester that would be very useful, thanks :)

The 375 and 385 aren't Sapphire routes, they're operated by standard spec Enviro400s which are fitted with e-leather seats and WiFi.

Arriva mainly use Wright Pulsars on the Liverpool to Chester route.

2 Chester-Liverpool are single deck only, however decker appears occasionally, when there's a shortage of single deckers.

Arriva Merseyside decker routes as far as i know
10/10A Liverpool-St Helens [10 starts from Queen Square bus station, 10A Liverpool One bus station] 10A is a QBP route however Stagecoach allocate single deckers to this route
10B Liverpool-Huyton, although single deckers have been reported on this route lately
12/13 Stockbridge Village Circulars
14 Liverpool-Croxteth booked for single deckers however deckers sometimes appear on this route, QBP route Stagecoach deckers appear on this route as well
15 Liverpool-Hutyon
52/52A Liverpool-Netherton
79/79D Liverpool-Netherley/Halewood think 75 Liverpool-Halewood is deckers but i'm not sure
82 Liverpool-Speke
86/86A Liverpool-Garston/Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Cross river routes
407 Liverpool-Moreton [my local route]
432/433 New Brighton-Liverpool
437 West Kirby-Liverpool
464 New Ferry-Liverpool
471/472 Heswall-Liverpool
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Just to add
60/61 Bootle-Aigburth Vale
I've seen deckers on the 81/81A Bootle-Speke/Liverpool JLA not sure if that's 100% decker allocated route

10B Liverpool-Huyton, although single deckers have been reported on this route lately

The 10B is still 100% decker allocated, single decks are only used if there are no spare Enviro400s available.

14 Liverpool-Croxteth booked for single deckers however deckers sometimes appear on this route, QBP route Stagecoach deckers appear on this route as well

The Arriva 14 and the 18 are both due to receive a batch of brand new Enviro400s, possibly hybrids, in a few months' time.

I've seen deckers on the 81/81A Bootle-Speke/Liverpool JLA not sure if that's 100% decker allocated route

I believe it is, although I have seen single decks on there a few times before.

Worth noting as well Enviro400s can very occasionally appear on the 26/27 circular routes too, although that's quite rare at the moment and generally on weekday mornings from what I've noticed. On Sundays and Bank Holidays, Green Lane depot's routes 10B, 12/13, 14, 15, 18 and 68A are (although the 14, 18 and 68A do still see Pulsars on those days) operated by deckers as there is a lower peak vehicle requirement.

The 75 is also a double decker route.

Speke garage Sunday routes are allocated mainly deckers as well, i know the 80A get's deckers allocated on Sundays, when normally single deck vehicles rest of the week

I've seen deckers on the 47 Liverpool-Crossens via Southport

Some of the Cross River routes are quite nice routes my favourite being the 437 West Kirby-Liverpool, which is handy as you can connect to both ends of the route by Merseyrail

Arriva have a couple of interworkings on the cross river routes, 437 interworks 432/433, 407 interworks 471/472, side note 471/472 is a QBP with Stagecoach, Stagecoach allocate deckers to this route, mainly Enviro 400s but occasionally ALX400s.

Most Arriva cross river routes are operated by hybrid deckers.

Especially when you look at the area that's covered as well & valid all day with no morning peak restrictions, in the past i've gone from Birkenhead to Manchester & back on the ticket, can't do as much these days with me being a carer.:(

The 12:18 is booked a Stagecoach Gold enviro 300 and the 12:28 will most likely be a VDL. As suggested elsewhere, no deckers are booked on routes 1&2 between Liverpool & Chester though the odd one does appear on Arriva diagrams. I managed one on the 2 last week.

Deckers are rare on the 1 due to the low bridge at Bache.

Just a quick update in case anyone is looking for the 'Sapphire' deckers on the X2 between Chester & Ellesmere Port. Arriva withdrew those services a few weeks back with no replacement.

Arriva' 84 between Chester & Crewe often drops deckers on Saturdays, and GHA's service 82 also produce deckers.

Also word going around that Arriva are withdrawing from route 2 Liverpool-Chester in September, route 2 will solely be operated by Stagecoach.

Yes-I heard it from a Stagecoach driver. Another source suggests there may be some other 'interesting' changes at the same time.
