Two transfers from Leicester have arrived for Northumberland.
YX72 OED - Leicester's 4560 is now Northumbria's 7597
YX72 OEC - Leicester's 4559 is now Northumbria's 7596.
Both are E400 MMCs.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

Arriva and Go North East's partnership for ticket acceptance on services 306-309 will come to end as of 22 March:
From Sunday 22 March 2026, the existing arrangement under which Go North East ticket products are accepted on Arriva services 306 and 308 will cease. Go North East products will therefore no longer be valid on these services from that date.

As a result of Go North East’s decision to end this arrangement, Arriva ticket products will also no longer be accepted on Go North East services 307 and 309.

What does this mean for you?
If you currently purchase a Go North East return, day, weekly (or longer) zonal ticket and use services 306 or 308, your ticket may no longer be valid from 22 March 2026. The following tickets will continue to be accepted:

TNE Day tickets at £7.50 and Tyne and Wear Day tickets at £6.80 (pricing correct as of 22 March 2026)
Network One tickets and Newcastle or North Tyneside SmartZone tickets
Any other non-Arriva tickets will not be accepted beyond this date.

Customers are advised to review their ticket options before travelling, particularly where journeys involve services operated by both companies.

A great shame for passengers, but not the first time we've seen partnerships like this come to an end.

Aargh, they're being renumbered in the wrong order!
I know, annoying. I wonder why. It looks like 7599 has moved to Northumberland in exchange for 7580 moving to Teesside.

There's quite a few service changes coming from 22 March & 29 March.
Northumberland + Tyne & Wear:
We’ll be introducing a number of updates to services across Northumberland and Tyne and Wear from Sunday 22 March and Sunday 29 March 2026, designed to improve reliability and help you make the most of your journey.

Based on customer feedback we are have reviewed the following journeys and some journey times will change slightly.

New Service 3 – Blyth to Bebside Rail Station
From Sunday 22 March, we’re introducing a brand-new peak-time Service 3 between Blyth and Bebside Rail Station.

Delivered in partnership with Northern Rail and Northumberland County Council, this new service will make it easier to connect with rail services to Newcastle. It will initially operate three journeys in each direction, timed to link with key commuter trains.

Service 306 – Newcastle to Tynemouth
From 22 March, Service 306 will operate to a revised timetable. Daytime frequencies will remain the same, however the service will no longer operate beyond Tynemouth to Whitley Bay. Later evening journeys towards Newcastle will run up to 30 minutes later to better reflect customer travel patterns.

Go North East products will no longer be valid on this services from that date. Please click here for full details.

Service 308 – Newcastle to Blyth
Service 308 will also run to an updated timetable from 22 March. Daytime frequencies will stay the same, with some later evening journeys towards Newcastle running slightly earlier.

Go North East products will no longer be valid on this services from that date. Please click here for full details.

Service 419 – Morpeth to Wallington Hall and Scots Gap
On Saturdays, both journeys on Service 419 will run five minutes later to improve connections with other services in Morpeth.

Services X7, X8, X9 and X10/X11 – Newcastle to Blyth
Minor timetable adjustments will be introduced to help improve reliability during peak travel times.

Service X14 – Newcastle to Morpeth and Thropton
From Sunday 29 March, additional journeys on Service X14 will serve Cragside making it easier to enjoy this popular destination.

Tees Valley:
From Sunday 29 March, we will be introducing a range of positive service improvements across the Tees Valley. These changes will benefit customers who currently travel on Services 5A, 28, 29, 62, 64A and 81, while also welcoming new customers from villages between Stockton and Darlington through an extended Service 10.

The changes have been carefully developed to reflect evolving travel patterns and to respond directly to customer feedback and requests for improved connections. The result is a more connected bus network, enhanced peak-time frequencies on some routes, and new journey opportunities for many communities.

From the same date, the usual seasonal frequency increases on Services X93 and X94 will also take place, alongside minor timetable adjustments to Service 7 in Stockton and Service X22 within County Durham.

Click below to view revised maps for the areas involved, to better understand the changes detailed below

Stockton & Middlesbrough Bus Network Map (from 29 March 2026)
Middlesbrough & East Cleveland Bus Network Map (from 29 March 2026)
Changes to Service 5A and 64A and NEW Service 65 (Middlesbrough to Lingdale)
Service 5A will be withdrawn, and Service 64A - currently terminating at Flatts Lane - will be renumbered as Service 65 and extended hourly via Flatts Lane and the A171 to Guisborough and Lingdale.

This extension creates new direct links and strengthens connections between communities across the area. It also allows peak-time services between Lingdale and Middlesbrough to be improved to every 30 minutes, compared with the current hourly service.

Existing Service 5A customers in Lingdale, Boosbeck, Margrove Park and Charltons should look out for Service 65 instead. Services will operate hourly during Monday to Saturday daytimes, with half-hourly journeys during morning and afternoon peaks - representing a clear improvement on the current peak timetable.

Customers currently using Service 5A along Ormesby Bank, Cargo Fleet Lane and Cranmore Road will continue to be well served by Service 5, along with nearby Services 8, 9 and 63.

These changes also introduce a much-requested daytime link between Guisborough, Eston and South Bank on Mondays to Saturdays, making journeys quicker and more convenient. Timings have been designed to support education travel, with one journey in each direction additionally serving Lawrence Jackson School.

Within Guisborough, Service 65 will operate via The Avenue, Hutton Lane and Rectory Lane, bringing stops on Thames Avenue back into the bus network in response to local requests.

Passengers currently using Service 64A will see only minor timetable changes and should look out for Service 65 instead.

Services 64 and 65 will continue to work together, as Services 64 and 64A do today, to provide buses up to every 15 minutes between Eston and Middlesbrough via South Bank.
Passengers who currently use Service 64A will see only minor timetable changes to reflect the longer route and should look out for Service 65 instead.

Services 64 and 65 will continue to work together, as Services 64 and 64A do today, to provide buses up to every 15 minutes between Eston and Middlesbrough via South Bank. This combined frequency will continue.

Changes to Service 10 (Darlington to Whinbush)
Working with Tees Valley Combined Authority, Service 10 will be extended once per hour beyond Whinbush to serve Sadberge, Bishopton, Redmarshall, Carlton, Thorpe Thewles, Stillington and Great Stainton.

Extended journeys will follow the current Service 10 route before operating a clockwise loop via Whinbush and then via Great Burdon to Sadberge. Buses will then serve all listed villages before returning via Sadberge and Great Burdon and continuing to Darlington via the normal anticlockwise loop of Whinbush.

This enhancement provides a new travel option for residents of these villages, while also benefiting existing customers in Whinbush. The hourly clockwise loop around Whinbush Way and Barmpton Lane will allow for convenient local journeys, including trips to and from ASDA, as requested by customers and residents.

Changes to Service 28/28A and 81 (Middlesbrough to New Marske)
Services 28 and 81 will be combined to form a single, longer route operating from Middlesbrough via Marton Road, Easterside, Marton, Nunthorpe, Guisborough, Dunsdale, Kirkleatham, Redcar, Redcar East and Marske Estate.

Service 81 will be replaced, with all buses operating as Service 28.

Running hourly, the new combined Service 28 will cover the full routes of both existing services while creating new connections across Guisborough. The service will continue to operate via Hunters Hill between Middlesbrough, Nunthorpe and Guisborough before extending to Redcar and Marske Estate along the current Service 81 route.

This change creates new journey opportunities, including direct links between Marton, Nunthorpe and Redcar. Residents in west Guisborough will also benefit from the return of an all-day direct service to Redcar, currently only available at peak times.

Service 28A will continue to operate its existing route and frequency but will see timetable changes to help address ongoing congestion in the Nunthorpe and Marton areas.

Changes to Service 29 and NEW 29A (Middlesbrough to Marton and Nunthorpe)
In partnership with Tees Valley Combined Authority, the supported section of Service 29 between Marton Manor and Marton (Cypress Road) will be enhanced to additionally serve Coulby Newham Parkway Centre on an hourly basis during Monday to Saturday daytimes.

Instead of two identical Service 29 journeys per hour, services will operate as one Service 29 and one Service 29A, maintaining the existing 30-minute frequency between Middlesbrough & Marton Shops. Service 29 will continue via its current route to Cypress Road, while Service 29A will operate via Gunnergate Lane, Coulby Newham Parkway Centre and Stainton Road.

This new Service 29A variation provides a direct daytime link between Marton and Coulby Newham.

Evening and Sunday journeys will continue to operate as they do currently, extending to Nunthorpe where required.

Changes to Service 62 (Middlesbrough to Redcar)
We are pleased to reintroduce a Sunday and Bank Holiday daytime Service 62 between Middlesbrough and Redcar.

Following customer feedback highlighting the lack of a Sunday service, an hourly service will be introduced on a trial basis from the end of March to provide greater flexibility and improved travel options.

In addition to this, most Monday to Saturday daytime journeys will be revised run up to 5 minutes earlier than they do now, so passengers are encouraged to check their usual bus time.

Changes to Service X93/X94 (Middlesbrough to Whitby and Scarborough)
The usual seasonal increase in frequency on Services X93 and X94 will commence from 29 March and run through to early November, providing enhanced summer services between the Tees Valley, Whitby and Scarborough.

Other timetable changes
From the same date, Service 7 between Yarm and Stockton will operate to a revised timetable, with no changes to route or frequency. Service X22 between Stockton and Peterlee will also operate to a revised timetable, with particular changes to weekday morning journeys.

These adjustments are daesigned to help address increasing congestion and improve reliability.

Some interesting changes there. Clearly, the relationship between Arriva and Go Ahead on the Coast Road services has expired!

The Tees Valley ones are quite interesting too. The 5A won't be missed as the X93/4 uplift will cover that...until the autumn. However, it does bring back the Eston to Guisborough link which was the 71 (?) once upon a time.

However, more interesting is the 10 being extended to serve the villages out to Great Stainton and Stillington...allowing another opportunity to travel between Darlington and Stockton for the intrepid Explorer NE purchaser.

As per the quoted section in #151, the decision to end the ticket acceptance on the Coast Road services was made by Go Ahead. Interestingly, Arriva recommends purchasing the Tyne & Wear Day ticket, which is apparently being withdrawn from 1 April as per the quote in #152.

There was also no mention of Whitby Park & Ride services.

Edit: found the registration for Whitby Park & Ride 2026 by Arriva: https://www.vehicle-operator-licens...registered-local-bus-services/details/641337/
Surprised it wasn't mentioned though.

Believe GNE pulled out the QA

Surprised NOT to see changes to the 35 and X21/X22 given the negative press and subsequent statements by Arriva

As someone who commutes down the Coast Road all I can say is oh dear. Unsurprisingly Go North East have chosen as of yet not to publicise how they're not only pulling out of an agreement that made everyone's lives easier but are reducing services on Saturdays down the same corridor.

The issue is also that Arriva, while quicker of a morning for me, usually have a habit of turning up whenever they please during the evening peak thanks to the complex interworking with the express services to/from Blyth.

I can predict a lot of confusion and confrontation with drivers in the first week or so.

It'll be interesting to see if the interworking continues or if the 306/308 work together in future if suggestions the upgraded buses are for them and not the x services are correct.

Down to be a very short-term loan - they (7598 and 7599) are due to wrapped in Whitby Park and Ride livery sometime in the next few weeks.
Seems a bit of a waste of some of their newest and best buses to be running them on a seasonal park and ride service pottering around Whitby instead of eating up the miles on a longer run...

Maybe the contract with the council dictates that busses that accelerate and can actually get up hills operate on the busy and frequent park and ride service?

Except they’ll be some of the oldest deckers at Whitby before too long - the B9s are due to be replaced on the year-round X93 workings by brand new E400s at some point this year. The native 72 plates will then form the X94 allocation.
There is also an age limited on the Park and Ride contract - hence why the two Geminis have now been withdrawn, last year was the last year they could be used.

Has Darlington got anything in exchange for 1604?
They are seriously struggling for busses.
Currently 4-5 parked up off the road, one Streetlite has been parked off road for over a month.
Several busses each day getting towed back to depot due to breaking down.

It is shocking the service they operate in Darlington. Each day several diagrams are cancelled due to no available bus.

Darlington have regained 1594 from Ashington - every Durham County Depot currently have one vehicle on-loan at Ashington due to the well-known issues up there in terms of their lack of decent maintenance of their fleet in recent years. Each is then swapped over when their 28 day inspection is due.
Sadly, the whole issue with the fleet is down to the continued cost-cutting which has seen the company cut the amount of spare vehicles at each depot down to the bare minimum.
Darlington's issues is why 1369 and 1450(II) entered service there - they are both intended to be depot training vehicles for route learning purposes.

I'm intrigued into how Darlington are going to be able to supply vehicles to operate the 10 extension to Sadberge etc, I believe that needs 2 extra to operate on that circuit, yet daily there is at least one bus not operating on the 9/10/13 routes.

The PVR increase on the 9/10/13 cycle is just 1 (the extended section of the 10 is an hour from Asda back to Asda), meaning the use of one of the short Streetlites will be used. As the extension is also funded by the TVCA, it means all boards on those services have to be run.
-------
And on the subject of Darlington, it is to be the first Arriva North East depot to go 100% electric - with 54 additional vehicles to be delivered by 2028 on top of the 21 Wright Kites due later this year.

Tees Valley initially received £7.8m from the Department for Transport in the first phase of the Zero Emission Bus Regional Area (ZEBRA) fund in 2024. Alongside £21.7m from the bus operators, this funding saw 61 fully electric buses on the Arriva and Stagecoach local bus fleet.

This contributed towards the full electrification of Stagecoach’s Stockton depot, and upcoming partial electrification of the Arriva Darlington depot fleet. This latest additional ZEBRA funding will allow the Stagecoach depot, in Hartlepool, and the remainder of the Arriva depot, in Darlington, to be fully electrified by 2027.

Richard Hoare, managing director of Arriva North, added: “This funding is a huge leap forward for cleaner public transport in the Tees Valley. Subject to final approvals, introducing 54 new electric buses alongside the 21 that Arriva already has for Darlington would allow us to fully electrify the depot."

That's fantastic news for Darlington! Full fleet of electric by end of 2027!
Finally the customers will be able to travel on decent, tidy, clean busses!
Thanks for sharing the link.

Redcar are due 18 E200MMCs later this year for the interworking cycle of services 63 (Redcar to Middlesbrough via Eston), 64 (Middlesbrough to Grangetown via South Bank and Eston) and 65 (Middlesbrough to Lingdale via South Bank, Eston, Bankfields, Flatts Lane and Guisborough) which is likely to see off the older Pulsars, although mainly those native examples.
Darlington are also due 10 examples later this year, no doubt they will be released when they get their fully electric fleet.

Part of the problem (aside from the underinvestment through the latter DB ownership years) is that they have a large number of electric and diesel vehicles due. Moreover, vehicles like the BYDs that were delivered in December and should be in service now are still awaiting entry into service whilst utilities are sorted out AFAIK.

In which case, life expired vehicles are expected to "hang on" for a bit longer (and not forgetting that the Pulsars are also hanging on whilst the Darlington CNG gas buses went prematurely at only 10 years of age)

The E200MMCs are they a larger variant than the small ones in Darlington?
