Not sure if this is the right place for this thread, apologies if its not, but I`ve just purchased an Arrival Wales Club 55 ticket today, the first time in a couple of years and I`ve noticed the ticket is now only valid on Arrive trains. Still great value of course, but no longer valid on any other service.

TPE and SR still do this type of offer on a regular basis.

ATW introduced 'add-ons' last time they did Club 55 costing between £3 and £5 to include validity further afield on Northern, Merseyrail etc. Worth checking if that's still the case.

ATW have always done add ons. Their tickets also used to allow travel on other TOCs over 'ATW routes', e.g GWR between Newport and Swansea, but this latter facility has been removed on the current offer.

Yes ATW still do the add ons, Scotrail no longer do the Club 55`s, which is a shame because we used them a lot, TPX should be starting up again shortly, I used one on a Glasgow trip just before Christmas.

Of interest I booked the Manchester to Fishguard Club 55 today and said I`d be travelling on the 18.32 ex Manchester Piccadilly, but I`ve just noticed another change in the rules that says you have to complete the outward journey in the same day, but the train wont arrive in Fishguard until after 01.00 saturday morning, so I wonder if the staff at Piccadilly didnt realise this when they told me the ticket, or if I`ll be allowed to continue my journey?

I think they have successfully killed it off with the price increases, creeping restrictions and reduced validity.
I find it strange that the dates offered by ATW are much more limited than TPE have for theirs, with just short windows for travel.
If anything TP is much busier than ATW on long distance trains, and yet offers Club 55 for a longer period.

The 'railway day' runs from 0430 to 0429 so you'll be absolutely fine.

The Club 55 terms and conditions say that travel is not allowed before 0930 Monday to Friday, but that there are no time restrictions on a Saturday. I would read that as overriding the "railway day" concept in the early hours of Monday to Friday mornings, but would have thought that you should be ok in the early hours of a Saturday morning.

OK thank`s, the staff at Piccadilly knew what time I was travelling anyway
and what time I would arrive and still sold me the ticket, so I that should be alright, having said that they have cocked up before, lol

Sales off them from Newtown are very low mainly because long distance destinations in Wales are such a tiny percent of the business here ( we sell more tickets to Scotland than Cardiff). The best bargain popular places with them from Newtown are either Manchester or Cardiff, however both these destinations have a definite skew of more younger people wanting to go to them than older ones. The £26.00 offers no advantage to Birmingham as an Anytime Day Return is £20.00 anyway. We can match the £32.00 to Liverpool via the Wirral route anyway.

Looks like Merseyrail aren't participating this time, it used to be £1 add-on.

Possibly because of the track renewals on the Wirral Line, meaning anyone wishing to use a Merseyrail route would have to take a replacement bus for part of the way, which would get complicated.
