Arriva are obviously getting their hourse in order to bid for more franchises as they come up - lots of senior jobs advertised...........

The ATOC role would definitely interest me, if they are prepared to take on someone with a "fresh" approach to things.

This isn't a dig at Arriva/ DB, but its a shame that some companies spend so much time and money (and such talents) working on new bids, instead of focussing on the "day job".

I can understand that its worth spending a few quid on a bid, for a lucrative contract, but I hope that we can spend the same energy/ money on "the day job" of running existing franchises too.

Well if the average bid team is 30 strong, has six figure salaries and usually costs around £5m for 1-2 years work....im in the wrong job

Arriva run the rails badly.

They are late too often, too many cancellations etc.

The problem that gets to me is they will NOT spend any money on the franchise as they hide behind the WAG who control it!

I so hope Arriva fail to regain the franchise as they are a pathetic joke and this makes it even more so!!!

How many times do people need telling, arriva trains Wales is a no growth franchise. They will not spend any money unless required to do so by their franchise agreement or there is a business case for doing so. Any business would react the same. if you don't like this then take it up with the dft

Welsh rail policy is decided by WAG not the DfT under the Railways Act 2005 and Transport (Wales) Act 2006, so take it up with WAG

Well to be more precise services are controlled by WAG, the line infrastructure and other large capital projects are still controlled by Westminster.

More than likely employees are being shuffled, contracts renewed, etc
Therefore to keep it all legal the existing roles have to be advertised externally

Our company has to do this, but we know fine and well internal employees will normally be awarded the position

i seem to recall the same being said about the Northern Rail franchise... and look at them...

Though the argument could be simulary turned to Arriva Cross Country...A franchise which even in one of the magazine articles, the managers have called it 'dissapointing'!
