Arriva 142's

Could someone tell me

i. What services do Arriva Wals use the 142's on?

ii. How many are in service on a "normal" day

iii. If they have the diagrams for the 142's

EDIT: It does not appear to have 142 diagrams, but I'm guessing by the ATW fleet numbers that either the units are used in the same pool as 143s, or that 143s have since been replaced by 142s.

Diagrams booked for 143 means either a 143 or 142, they come from the same pool.

142s are used all over the place down with ATW. All over the Cardiff Valleys (Merthyr, Rhymney, Treherbert, Aberdare, Maesteg, Penarth and Barry Island) mainly, with some diagrams to Cheltenham Spa, very unusually on stopper services to/from Swansea and Cardiff Central, the City Line (Coryton - Cardiff Central - Ninian Park - Radyr) and the first service from Hereford and some Sunday diagrams on the Marches (usually when there's engineering works on as they never go north of Shrewsbury) and Hereford terminating services.

143s can, as said, work where the 142s do.

if your that unlucky it may do a fishguard run again! sometimes the 142s work in pairs, i think in peak times only though?

Most of the Valleylines services is still booked for pairs to run throughout the day. Saturdays and sundays vary considerably, especially on match days! No specific 142 diagrams appear as as have been already said they are shared workings and can vary day to day as required. I have noticed though that mixed pairings don't for some reson usually appear but it is not uncommon for them to do so. 142s on the fishguards - hmm, I know several people that have been caught that when they've had problems with the 37s!!!

There are around 36diagrams IIRC, of which about 20 are pairs of pacers (so CF101/2 are same diagram with 2 pacers)

Generally speaking, the Penarth-Bargoed services are more likely to produce, with pairs and singles, singles are nearly 100% gurenteed on Coryton-Cardiff-Ninian-Radyr services. Also, now quite a lot of Treherbert-Cardiff services are.

Your best bet is to get in touch with someone who can supply diagrams or use a timetable and once you see a pacer that you want, map out it's diagram by doing what I did, and circling the services and writing unit numbers on top.

I know several people that have been caught that when they've had problems with the 37s!!!

I never got bowled by a 142 but went one day and it turned up a 158 It was obviously flagged)

Yep, the 142's and 3's run all over the valleys usually run in pairs at peak times and sundays as there are less trains on a sunday although you may get a 142/150 paired up
