Armed Forces to the Coronation by Train

Amazing, have to admit I'm nicking that one (coming from a very Naval family)

In similar vein, during a big tri-service operation, an order was given, “Go and secure three hotels in town".

The Army formed up an assault team and cordon party, sealed off the hotel, blew the doors in and cleared each floor, room by room.

The Royal Navy sent out a shore patrol and entered the hotel, shut all of the windows, turned off all the lights and locked the doors.

The Royal Air Force sent an officer and accountant and booked all of the rooms for a month with an option to purchase.

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary contingent I was part of came by timetabled train from Portsmouth for the overnight rehearsal but we were lucky enough to be coached to London on Friday night for the event. I wouldn’t have fancied going up by train on the morning.

2 Royal Anglian managed to leave their brand new Colours on the train and were only reunited with them just before the start of the parade at the muster point. Still, the young ensign and/or his/her Colour Sergeant won't have to worry about how to fill their weekends for the next 6mths or so!
