Are viagra, cialis etc safe?

Ok I'm gonna cut to the chase here, I'm considering trying viagra or cialis I'm sure you dont need to be told why. I cant face reporting it to the supervisor as i know it will be around the depot ( small) within an hour! Obviously I wont take this stuff if its not safe or it shows up on a medscreen. There must be other drivers in the UK with the same problem. many of whom may well have had the guts to report it but i just cant! I think id rather see my marriage of 30 years end than face the ridicule.

So guys are we able to take this stuff and if so are there rules like not less than 12, 24 hours before work, and does it show up on a medscreen, for cause or random?:cry:

I dont suppose you will, but an important warning. Whatever you do don't buy either over the internet.

I'm sure your doctor would advise you but If you are fit to drive a train I think there are no problems.

I'm sure I saw a list once on another forum, but much of the info is on line from the Railway Group Standards.

Could you not just tell your supervisor? If he is divulging confidential details about employee's medical records, he is surely setting himself up for a quick and painless P45 soon.

At my company if we are on any drugs (for medicinal purposes) we go direct to occupational health and do not discuss it with our immediate management.

None of those drugs contain any prohibited substance and thus will not affect the outcome of the testing process.

The substances clear the body with 24 hours in any case.

It isn't banned nor does it have any lasting effects. I know of a few drivers who've used and are using viagra.

I have to confess when I first saw this thread heading I thought there was some 'spam' to deal with on the forum!

No cos we are such a small depot we sign on remotely. the supervisor writes down the medications and emails occ health, they then fax a response with any instructions and it can take hours ( 2 or more shift changes). The office is not that secure so anyone can walk in and be nosey!

As you guys have said its ok i might just be able to pluck up the courage to ring occ health directly and report it! Thankyou so much and thanks to those tempted to rip the **** for restraining themselves!!!!!

To be honest, there is nothing to rip the pss out of anyway and you should be applauded for having the courage to post in the first place.

I reckon you'd find most of the posters here are blokes and in reality are sensible enough to think 'There but for the grace of God go I!'

Just remember that Viagara can affect the heart. Regrettably it possibly killed my late father in law but he was 81! It worked wonders for him, having been prescribed by the GP. However, it seems to work on the blood vessels and there have been health warnings about the medication.

This is essential. Even for those with no apparent history of cardio-vascular trouble, these medications can cause dizziness and fainting. Which is why you should always go through your GP.

You can buy it from Boots and similar chemists without going to the GP. £50 for 4 and requires a quick blood test.

Yes, pharmacists can prescribe certain ED drugs, but they will also generally require a consultation before they will issue the drugs (to ensure that there are no contraindications to prescribing). It's no different to going to the doctor, and you still need the consultation before they will prescribe anything.

Remember that ED drugs are not covered by the NHS (except for in certain conditions, such as Diabetes), so unless you are covered by the NHS you'll have to pay the full price (~£50 for 4x25mg tablets) regardless of the route you choose (not just the £7/£3/free prescription charge).

As for online pharmacies, you're best to avoid them. There are genuine ones (which require to be in receipt of a prescription before they issue drugs), but to be honest they're no more convenient than going to the chemists down the road. Even if you don't have the time to wait, most places will take the prescription in the morning and prepare it for later on the same day.

Viagra use is much more common than you think, and nothing at all to be ashamed about. Indeed, there is a shed driver at my depot who is on it due to his diabetes and is quite happy to discuss it. No one at all rips the p*** out of him. If my spinal surgery had gone wrong a few years ago then i myself might have been on it.
Personally, i'd inform occupational health, or your supervisor just to be on the safe side. Take the time to pay a personal visit and impress the need for confidentiality. Alternatively, do it by phone just before your rest days, asking first if it is okay to speak confidentially.
Above all, don't worry and try not to be embarrassed. I'm not sure what your relationship with supervision or management is like, but you'd be surprised how accommodating they can be at times like this.
