Are FGW running an apprenticeship programme this year?

Last year FGW ran an apprenticeship programme I'm sure it was February time it was announced. I've not spotted anything though for this year.

Might anybody know if they plan to run anything this year?

I've got a 17 year old who does not quite meet the very strict entry requirements for the Network Rail Apprenticeship but wants to work on the railways in any shape or form.

I don't know about FGW, but I did notice TFL have got a lot of different apprenticeships (I might put in for a couple) but I think they are along the same line as Network Rails apprenticeship requirements. Would it be worth your son re taking some of his GCSEs before September and potentially being eligible for the apprenticeships?

FGW ran two different ones last year, not sure if they'll be running both again this year, but last year's had one for Operations Apprentices (working at stations, on board etc etc) and another one run for the first time was for Control Apprentices. If your child is interested in working for Network Rail, then the latter might be a better suited one for him/her.

South West Trains currently have a vacancy for an engineering apprentice at Wimbledon or Bournemouth, maybe you should have a look.

Some advice: make sure it's definitely what your 17 year old really wants to do. I stated an apprenticeship with a company that make parts for f1 cars when I was 17, it sounded great at first but I didn't enjoy it at all once five months had passed. I don't think I could have done it for three years.
