Are Eco Toilets causing more problems than they solve.

I started this thread as a way of keeping this away from the 701 thread.

That said, I will complain about the toilet smells - I was on a 701 the other day that you could smell the toilet the entire length of the train. One of the downsides of connected carriages and no opening windows, I guess.

That is a subject of a-another thread, of which train crew have no control over, and I would agree with you. The drive for eco answers to many issues in todays world, does sometimes result in other negative outcomes. There will never be a silver bullet to every perceived problem - cause and effect etc.

Good idea.

It is hopefully a case of new technology taking time to settle down. Perhaps a few design changes and consequent alterations.

Are those the ones with a built in digester? They aren't "eco"; the reason for them is to reduce the frequency of emptying and therefore both cost and the frequency of them being out of order by the end of the day.

I guess so - have amended my original opening post as I think "digester" is the meaningful bit that escaped my memory !.

The answer is probably that like any new technology they will take time to "bed in". Vacuum toilets seem a lot more reliable than they were now, with the reason for them being out of order often being that they are full, which this should reduce.
