Same for me.I wouldn't exactly say "hellfire", but my feelings are closer to "yes".

As for modern, wasn't it 1994 when Alphaline got them for the Marches? So it's, what, 13 years for them up and down this way. It'll be disappointing when the last 158 works the Marches, that's for sure.
Put it into context though, modern? really? 1989+. You should try a 175!
Don't get me wrong in an ideal world all my workings would be loco hauled, 47's for my fasts & 37's for My semi's with a random selection of proper BR loco's to boot etc etc........(Oh & no sheds or skips).
Trouble is the ideal world doesnt stay around for you. One day you have to just look up & face the fact that some arsehole has gotten rid of everything you liked on the railway. (Usually has a beard ,the git).
158's based on what is around right now, well there really isnt any equal.
159s have more powerful engines.
Some of them do, I think the 159/1s might have the 350hp engines, but I'm not sure.

Not sure when SWT are planning to uprate the 159/1s engines, sure I read somewhere they're planning to do it once refurbishment of the 159/0 fleet has been completed, which is currently in progress.
As for 390's.. They're in a league of their own! 8) :blob6:

Can someone define "Hellfire"?
I think 158s are hellfire, although aren't 159s the same?, If anyone said a 159 wasn't more hellfire then a 158, is just noooooo....
158's are supposed to be more powerful than 159's.

I seem to have grown a liking for Pendolinos,
Referring back to an earlier post of mine...
The 159/1s have the Cummins NTA855R 260kW (350hp) 1900rpm as fitted to 158s, the 159/0s have the same engine, but is uprated to 300kW (400hp) 2100rpm. Hence, the 159/0s ARE more powerful than the 158's. Yes, we all have our own opinions on the 158s/159s, but I still stand by VXCFan & any others, they are Hellfire in the 2nd gen dmu world, especially after visiting Salisbury for a while last wednesday lol.It was wicked!
Mart
FGW will soon be using 150s on Cardiff-Portsmouth services, so soon it will be a luxury to be in a 158!
And I just heard 442s were going to be running Holyhead to Chesters....
