Hi everyone,

Many years ago when my twin brother and I were just six years old Dad came home from work one night and said that something called an APT was at Duffield in the old (and now lifted) down loop. And indeed it was, looking all sleek and amazing. Do any of the forum members know what it was doing there? In case you were wondering it was gone the following morning!

Best wishes,

Angela

Test run from Derby? - the prototype Gas Turbine version presumably.

This was in 1972 by the way!

If it was 25th July it would have been the first run!

The APT-E made its first run on 25 July 1972 from Derby to Duffield and was immediately 'blacked' by the drivers' union ASLEF, due to concerns that the single driver's seat preempted ongoing negotiations about the single-manning of trains.[2] It was over twelve months before it ran again on the main line in August 1973.
