Hi guys,

I am starting my new job soon, I am having to take an apprenticeship for the role. I have to retake maths functional skills level 1, it is not my strong point. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice into what happens if you pass everything else but you don't pass the math. Do they sack you off. Working for SWR

Thank In advance

No they won’t sack you, in a nut shell: they receive money as part of a government initiative, getting staff across the country to a certain level of maths, english and IT.

So it’s in the interest of both you and SWR to get the accreditations.

I had english and maths but not IT, you will do online courses, then a test, if you don’t pass the staff at TRAINEDUP (they run the courses for SWR) will help you until you do. A few people on my course were worried about this also, they all passed with the help of the trainers. So don’t loose sleep over it and good luck.

I had to do functional skills maths level 2 at work and haven’t been in education for almost 40 years. I found it very straight forward, all online, plenty of practice material. Some of the things came back to me some didn’t. But overall there was plenty of help and I passed first time. As others have said there’s government funding for it so it’s in the employers interests to get you through.
