Any idea why LNER insist on having Maths and English gcse’s? I mean if it’s an apprenticeship, why don’t they offer a functional skills course to help the trainee achieve them. It seems to be the only TOC like that.

Probably because they know they have enough applicants they won't need to.

Does anyone know why they’re advertising again, despite having not cleared the previous load of applications. Recieved an email yesterday saying we’ll be putting out another job listing, but don’t worry, you don’t need to apply again and your video interviews (from the last application) will be viewed this week.

It doesn’t make sense to me to have another hiring drive when they haven’t finished the previous one yet?

They probably have got through enough applications to know they needed to advertise again. The majority are not successful.

I too submitted my video interview. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to doing them!

Has anybody else put themselves up for this?
Hi, I’ve put in for this. Submitted my video interview a few days ago. Have since been going back over the questions in my head and thinking of much better answers :s Good luck to everyone who has applied!

Yeah me too! I’m using it as an opportunity to prepare better answers for the interview if I’m successful or put me in better stead for next time if unsuccessful.

This. Maybe there were not enough applicants that met the criteria they are looking for.

Because the TOCS get around £14K from the apprenticeship levy and if they have to spend money getting people Upto standard it eats into that money. Also add in the time and effort to coordinate functional skills it becomes a real headache. GTR southern have recently started a course where they won’t do the apprenticeship as they’ve such a backlog of post qualified drivers which still haven’t completed it

It’s only grade c - basic standard to be fair.
It’s not only anything! I’ve recently had a lot of route learners in with me that are very bright but for 1 reason or another didn’t do very well at school and have had to do functional skills to meet the requirements of the apprenticeship

Oh so if you don’t complete the functional skills course, you can still qualify as a driver? I imagined they’d stop you from leaving the classroom based stuff till you’ve achieved the pass.

And if they didn’t, did they still progress with the driver training?

Lots have qualified without the functionail skills required to pass! They won’t stop you qualifying unless you fail the ICA

Does it still show as ‘Application Submitted’ in your Job Account?

Night shifts take a toll on me which is a shame. Do LNER run 24hrs?

Good luck to everyone.

Just received an in person invite to interview so keep an eye out for anyone else that has applied. Also does anyone have information on whether a suit would be required for the interview or whether a smart outfit in general would do. Thanks !
