Hi All,
Thanks for all your responses. I’m only looking to cover the first year really. I’ll be taking a 20k drop in salary and will probably have to take on a second income on weekends whilst in training. I was thinking of getting a loan to cover part of the drop and was seeking advice if anyone had heard of an advanced learner loan and if so, if it is viable with driver training.

Some well paid idiots that are also just making some easy money for not knowing what they are talking about. The qualification is useless, any TOC/FOC just wants the licence and a clean SOL
It has always tickled me that after 10 years in the industry, most of which has been spent as a guard dealing with all sorts of nonsense from the routine to the unusual, nowadays if I actually wanted to move to the seat at the other end of the train I'd have to put in to be an "apprentice" and prove my proficiency in reading, 'riting and 'rithmetic or take a college course - they already pay me to be the guard of the rolling tin can

Hi All,
Thanks for all your responses.

The advanced learner loan doesn't appear to be applicable in this instance. You are probably best of taking a personal loan to cover the drop or as you say, a second income (although be careful as that may impact fatigue and you'll need to tell your employer). However the only people qualified to answer this would be a financial adviser so you may wish to consult one.

This thread is going to be closed off now, as other conversations in this thread aren't relevant to the question at hand.
